I talked with Helen yesterday and she believes your lineage is solid, so any ydna from your family should be just fine. Her exact words were "I have no doubt that she is a descendant! Let's hope she can get the DNA test done...." Helen is certainly the expert on this whole family, so I trust what she tells me. I've got my fingers crossed that you will be successful. Thank you for trying. Take Care, Joel Robinson Charlotte, NC Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have no idea how they would take to the idea of the ydna test but I will approach them. Before I do, please could you be more specific about the proof you want that they are direct descendants of Christopher I. As for Viola, as I say in my book, she has got three Robinson homesteads - or sites - rolled into one in such a way that I cannot believe she ever came to England because it is a geographical as well as historical impossibility. Mainly, to see if this family is my family. My g-grandmother started this mess and passed it down to her dau who got me involved when I was a sophomore in college - abt 50 years ago. The furthest back I can get is Spots Co VA in 1733 but he was gone from Spots by 1736. Many counties around Spots Co don't have existing records which puts me at a dead-end. Helen Battleson, whom I think you know, agrees with me that my ancestor was dealing with the same folks that the Christopher Robinson family was, but that's not enough for me. ydna is the only way I will get any further back unless I have some kind of epiphany. :-) My other reason is we don't have ydna on either VA Christopher Robinson families - one in Henrico and one in Middlesex. Many of the other early VA Robinson families have ydna, but these two do not and it would be nice to solve that. I though it was interesting what you said about Viola Robinson in your book. My g-grandmothers dau, mentioned above, was a friend of Viola and I have most of their correspondence. I need you to tell me a bit more. 1) Are you wanting this test to see whether you are descended from Christopher Robinson the first (or 1) who came from Yorkshire in about 1666 2) What sort of proof do you need? If you can convince any of these Robinsons to submit to FTDNA ydna, I will pay the cost of the test. If they are reluctant and need a little push, send me their tel nr and I will try. The test doesn't tell them anything but who they are related to - nothing more. Very harmless. If so, I took what you all had and tried to follow your lineage. To me, and I posted this on rootsweb and nobody responded except Helen, there is too much gray area in Spots Co that you all are making an assumption on that the records do not reflect. I personally believe there are two different Robinson families in Spots Co in the late 1700's. I will admit there is some interaction between the families, but nothing that I found that would show kinship. That's why we need an additional ydna submission. We are I1 - and we match a Matthew Robinson, who communicated with me for a time. My line goes back to Christopher. His probably does, but he lacks some links. Our families, part of The Traveling Church, were living side by side; one of my family married Fannie Berry and one of his family married her sister, maybe her twin, Sally Berry. The other surnames involved would be Lillard, Bush, Berry, Parker, Beverley, Obert. b Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I need a male that has good records that show his lineage back to Christopher Robinson or some male of that family. I wish I could use yours, but female mtdna goes from you to your mother to her mother, etc. Male ydna goes from father to son, etc. Helen Battleson has been trying to find someone, but we've had very little luck on nailing down a male with good records. Oh well... this wouldn't be any fun if it was easy. Take Care, Joel Robinson Charlotte, NC Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am glad you enjoyed the book; it was fun to do! Are you saying that you would like me to get my DNA tested to see if a link can be established with you - as I know for certain that I am descended from the Christopher Robinson who emigrated to Virginia? I have never had a DNA test and don't really know how to go about it - so let me know. Philippa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I read it in one sitting. Very interesting, especially what you found in the UK. It's possible my family descends from this family. Helen and I both agree there is a good possibility but the records are destroyed, so any proof will have to come from ydna. That's the reason I asked you about any Robinsons in the UK that descend from this family. Anyone reading this that does descend from the Christopher Robinson family needs to contact me if they have already or want to submit their ydna.
