Viola R. Robinson Posted: Thursday, Oct 13, 2005 - 04:12:13 pm PDT COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON STATE. Viola R. Robinson passed away Oct. 8, 2005 at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. She was born to Walter and Ollie Summers on January 19, 1919 in Wauconda. She grew up in the Wauconda area. She married Cleo Robinson on May 4, 1948, and they lived in the Tonasket, Bonaparte and Curlew areas before moving to Cottonwood, Idaho in 1957. In 1974, Vi and Cleo moved to Moses Lake to be nearer their daughter, Queenie, and her family. She made her choice to serve God when she was around 18 years old, and this choice was her stability during her years. She continued faithfully in that choice until the end. Vi was a very active homemaker. She loved to garden, knit and crochet. She has made innumerable afghans and others have enjoyed the results of her labors. Until just the last few years, she always had a garden and others enjoyed the results of that work also. We will miss her loving ways and quick wit. She is survived by her loving grandson, Shane Ring, who cared for her until her death; her loving son-in-law, Larry Ring, of the family home in Moses Lake; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Preceding her in death was her husband, Cleo, her daughter, Queenie, her parents, and two brothers, Ron and Walter Summers. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. at Chief Moses Middle School in the social room. There will be a potluck following the service at the school. The school will open at 9:30 a.m. for floral deliveries. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.

    1. Re: [ROBINSON] Elizabeth Robinson born 1840's Ontario Canada
    2. Valerie LaRobardier
    3. From the census we learn that Elizabeth Robinson was born in Canada in May of 1840. She married John Garland in 1865. He was born in New York in May of 1842. His parents were Friend and Christina (or Christa Ann) ? Garland. Friend was born in VT in abt 1815. His father was born in England, mother in New Hampshire. Note that John's mother’s name is Lucy on the 1870 census but this cannot be a second marriage for his father, but rather an error/nickname, as she is once again Christa Ann in 1880. Christa/Christina was born abt 1821 in Scotland, where her parents were both born. John + Elizabeth Robinson Garland had 7 children, 3 of whom died prior to 1900. One child is missing from the census lists. They married in 1865 and the youngest ch is 2 in 1870, with later ch being pretty evenly spaced, so I suspect the missing ch b abt 1866 and d prior to 1870. It looks like, from the ages given on the census, either the 1900 is off for Elizabeth (but there the month and yr of birth are given, in addition to the age, so this seems less likely) or they were saying Elizabeth was younger than John in the beginning, but as they got older decided it didn't matter, and gave the correct age. Franklin + St Lawrence counties are near to Ontario and Quebec so birth of Elizabeth in Ontario is on target. Keep in mind that William + Anna were both b England, so they may have left no trace in CAN vitals other than baptism of children. No way of knowing if they married in England or Canada or if they died in Canada or the US. It is entirely possible that William + Anna stayed in Canada, or that they came after 1860, though preliminary search doesn’t find them in 1870 either, did not exhaust all possibilities though. There are many similar names among the St Lawrence, NY Robinsons, but none are an exact match. I see a Samuel Bean, neighbor of the Garlands, in 1870 Duane, NY, possible cousin of Elizabeth. Closest match I find is in Stockholm, St Lawrence 1860—Ann Robinson age 51, HOH with what looks like son William age 29 and 5 other young adults (possibly two of them are married as there are also two ch much too young to belong to Ann) One of these young adults is Lois Robinson, age 20. This census shows her born NY, and the name is not an exact match (though Elizabeth does appear as Loizia in 1900, may have used Louisa as nickname), but due to the proximity of Madrid to Stockholm and the other similarities, I would not rule this Lois out as a match to Elizabeth Robinson Garland without checking further. (If so that puts her father's DOD likely before 1860) The 1851 census of Ontario transcriptions are I believe available at Family History Libraries, and that may reveal more about William + Anna. Ontario civil registrations do not go back to 1840, so it would be necessary to look to church records for birth record for Elizabeth. Start in Dundas, Stormont + Glengarry. Prior to 1850 they were separate counties--each has a site on GenWeb. See http://www.geneofun.on.ca/ongenweb/ for links to these sites. I am not too familiar with the Ontario genweb, it may be possible there is more info there. Post queries to these county message boards also. Looking again at the list below I see John Garland was already in Franklin County in1860, so my logic about meeting Elizabeth in St Lawrence county is off. This makes the 1860 Lois less likely a match, though Madrid, St Lawrence and Malone, Franklin (1850 + 1860 locations for John Garland) are less than 50 miles apart, with Stockholm being closer to the Madrid end of the trip. More research is needed to find the marriage location. Franklin seems most likely with a date of 1865, though location at this time of Elizabeth and/or her parents is not known, and that would play in and could change the location. More detail on her parents may be found from the marriage record and witnesses listed. The four eldest ch of John + Elizabeth Garland (on the census lists at least) seem to be named after the grandparents--Anna Bean Robinson may be therefore actually Lillie Ann Bean, or Anna Lillian Bean, or some such similar name. The child who died young may have carried the same name as one of these four ch. also--not uncommon. Now that I think about it, the first ch who d young may have been named Anna, who likely d prior to 2nd dau birth, and Lillian was then added to the name of the 2nd dau, so it may not actually be a part of the Bean grandmother's name. 1900 Duane, Franklin, NY John Garland (HOH) b May 1842 NY m 35 yrs father b Vt, mother Scotland Loizia Garland(wife) b May 1840 CAN 7 ch, 4 lvg parents both b England Friend Garland(son) b Sep 1874 NY single John Garland(son) b Aug 1877 NY single 1880 Duane, Franklin, NY Friend Garland (HOH) 66 b VT father b England, mother NH Christa Ann Garland(wife) 56 b Scotland parents both b Scotland Rebecca Garland (dau) 30 b NY, single (next HH) John Garland (HOH) 36 b NY father b Vt, mother Scotland Eliza Garland(wife) 35 bCAN parents both b England William Garland (son) 12 b NY Lillie Ann Garland (dau) 10 b NY Christa Ann Garland (dau) 8 b NY Friend Garland(son) 5 b NY John Garland(son) 3 b NY 1870 Duane, Franklin, NY Friend Garland (HOH) 51 b VT Lucy Garland 48 b Scotland (parents of foreign birth) John Garland 25 b NY Elissa Garland 23 b CAN (parents of foreign birth) William Garland 2 b NY (mother of foreign birth) Lillian Garland 10/12 b NY (July; mother of foreign birth) Silas Garland 17 b NY (mother of foreign birth) Malinda Garland 19 b NY (mother of foreign birth) Abby Garland 8 b NY (mother of foreign birth) 1860 Malone, Franklin, NY Friend Garland (HOH) 45 b VT Christian Garland 39 b Scotland John Garland 16 b NY Allich Garland 14 b NY Rebecca Garland 12 b NY Lucy Garland 9 b NY Silas Garland 6 b NY 1850 Madrid, St Lawrence, NY Friend Garland (HOH) 25 b VT Christianna Garland 28 b Scotland John Garland 6 b NY Alex Garland 4 b NY Rebecca G Garland 2 b NY -------Original Message------- From: rogersv@crocker.com Date: 10/10/05 01:17:19 To: ROBINSON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ROBINSON] Elizabeth Robinson born 1840's Ontario Canada This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
