Is there anyone interested in the Robinsons who did not venture into the New world and spent their lives in the UK., particularly in County Durham, Regards, John R.Emmerson. Camberley, Surrey. UK
So what do we do if we are studying Robinsons and our sources are fraudulent? How will we know and know NOT to use them for our published info? Anybody? From that previously posted link about falsified documents: ROBINSON Family 929.273 A1 no. 556 ROBINSON Family: Genealogical History of the Robinson Family from John Robyson of England in 1374, to Henry and Richard Robinson of Maryland in 1650, to John Robinson of Delaware in 1698, to John M. Robinson, 1878 929.273 A1 no. 556 Rev. Ed; "If you or you know of anyone researching any of the above lines, you are going to have serious problems with your lineage somewhere when you run into a brick wall you can not scale. Not only will the above mentioned "genealogies" steer you into uncharted waters but any other genealogies that followed later and have used this material for their source. Any of your sources that trace back to anything compiled by Gustave Anjou will prove suspect. If you know of any Anjou sources not listed above, please contact me. ATTENTION GENEALOGY LIBRARIANS : I would be very interested in learning of any genealogical works in your collections that may be credited to Gustave Anjou or his company, AMERICAN CONSUMERS SOCIETY, located at No. 2 West 45th Street, New York. Thank you for your assistance. " I guess we check our sources to see if we have ever used these books or publications, right? Thanks so much Joyce. The site was very interesting and had other names I am researching as well. I am looking for a John Brandon who married an Elizabeth Henson in Roane Co TN in Dec of 1832. His son John Adam Brandon married Emma Calhoun Robinson (I am stuck on finding her parents!) Her parents would be Sarah F (Calhoun?) and Unknown first name Robinson. They would have been married anytime prior to 1848-49, and I believe her birth year is about 1830. Hmmm... Brandon and Branam and Brannan and Branham, etc all have shown up as alternate spellings of my guys family name. I am stuck at this marriage date for this couple. I have heard that John Brandon was married previously, but it may have been just a mixup in John Brandons. I have heard that Elizabeth Henson was married previously, and that her husband was William Chaney. There was a William Chaney in Roane CO TN at the same time, buti have no way to verufy as yet that his 1830 & 40 census records might include her. I have found no marriage or death records for a Wm/Bill/Billy Chaney. My Elizabeth Calhoun Robinson was daughter of Sarah F (Calhoun?) Robinson and unk first name Robinson who may have been a doctor. Sarah and Mr. or Dr Robinson supposedly were both from GA and they had three children Mary, Emma C, and Walter John born 1857 in GA or AL. I believe Mr or Dr Robinson would have died after his last child was born in 1857 and before his widow remarries in 1859. His name might be either Walter or John since the son was supposedly named after him, but I can find no proof of that. I found a William Robinson married to a Sarah who I thought was promising, but Sarah turns out to be a Sarah Morgan and the family goes on past 1859. I cannot find Mr or Dr Robinsons first name so far. I also do not know how Emma Robinson met her future husband John Brandon of Tennessee. I have been brickwalled on these guys for a long time, but recently had a break. Sarah supposedly remarried to his business partner, a Dr Morris. I had no verification on this until I found the census records for Sarah's second family. In 1859 in Montgomery Co AL she marries Dr. A.P. (Allen) Morris in Alabama and then in 1860 they are in Louisiana. She later had two more children James O Morris and Sarah F (Fannie) Morris and died in 1869 in LA. Dr Morris shows up in Texas later as a farmer, and the Robinson kids as far as I know all go to Texas. So- does any of this sound like any story you have heard, or any names that may match up? I am slowly drudging through all the records I can find online. Anything would be helpful if you have any matches or maybes or absolutely nots. Do you have a middle name for Herbert or any other family names? Even a wife later in life would help. I do not see him yet as Herbert in 1860 or 1870. -------Original Message------- From: The Robinsons Date: 02/12/06 14:06:34 To: ROBINSON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [ROBINSON] Robinson in Dutchess County NY Is anyone researching Robinsons in Dutchess County NY(Beekman, Dover, Unionvale) ? At age ten he was found by some Vermont Civil War Soldiers, working as a slave, cultivating a cornfield. He left the field and went with CO C 9th VT Reg. He was in the "service" of John Manney of Middlebury, Vermont and then Lt. William Holman CO G. who brought him home to Braintree, Vermont.
