Illinois a few years ago. The Bible was printed in the late 1800's, but that really doesn't give us a time frame for the Rev. Robinson. I am looking for any Robinsons born in Ga who received Texas land grands. Also any Robinsons in Georgia with the name Walter popping up! My Robinson unknown frist name, probably Walter, was born about 1820-1830 in Georgia and had land grants in Texas. He died in 1857-1858 and his heirs received the land in Llano County, TX. I am trying to trace this Mr Robinson through the land grants and hoping to find his family and relations. I am also trying to find out who claimed the land and when. (The name of his widow and children.) I have the son, who is named Walter John Robinson, in Texas in 1880 in Coryell County. I lost track of the son between 1860-1880 and hoping to find him in records. The fathers name is unknown but we think its Walter. We think there may be brothers of the father named William and Thomas Robinson, both born before 1830. Any help appreciated. I am also looking for Robinsons from Georgia who may have also lived in Alabama before moving to Louisiana and then Texas. I dont know the first name of the eldest male Robinson, but he married a Sarah Frances _____(probably Calhoun, also from GA.) Mrs Sarah F Robinson was born in 1830, and their children included Mary born about 1848-1849, Emma C., born about 1851, and Walter John Robinson born 1857 in GA. The father may have been a landowner, planter or physician, and had business dealings with a Dr Morris. In 1859 Sarah married Dr A.P. Morris in Alabama, and by 1860 they were in Louisiana and they had their first child James Morris. They had a second child, Sarah F called Fannie, and Sarah Robinson Morris the mother, died in 1869 in Louisiana. The Robinson children were all in Texas by 1880 as far as we know. I have tried just about everything I can think of to find Sarah's husbands name, but no Sarah that was married to a Robinson seems to have a husband who died between 1857 and 1859. My Robinsons ended up in Texas from Coryell County in the west to Navarro and Freestone counties. Mr Robinson (or maybe Dr Robinson if he was partners with Dr Allen "A. P." Morris) had three children that we know of, and we cannot trace Mary Robinsons whereabouts just yet. Emma Robinsons's kids were named: Alma, Wilmer, Mary Frances (aka Minnie) Walter's kids: Sarah E. born 1889, Lumous Nelson, Grady J, Thomas William, Cecil Byron, Alma M., Katie S., Mary B., Jessie Jane, and Clark Robinson born 1908. Does anyone have any ideas? Surnames: Robinson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3cDBAIB/7568.1.1 Message Board Post: The following is a statement from my grandfather about the Robinson family's move from Ga. to Tx. "Henry LaFayette Robinson’s father was Thomas Jefferson Robinson. Henry came to Texas with his family in the latter part of 1869 from Jonesborough, Georgia. They came to Memphis, Tenn. Where they boarded a steamship on the Mississippi river for Jefferson, Texas. On their way down the Mississippi river the boat ran onto a sand bar and a smoke stack blew up and the boat sank. Part of the smoke stack landed on Henry Lafayette’s arm and some quick work on the part of some of the men rescued him. Two of the younger children, William and Charles drowned. This occurred on a Sunday. The family camped on the river bank overnight because they could not buy a wagon or team on Sunday. Early the next morning the eldest daughter, Angeline walked down to the river and saw one of the boys body in the water. She went back to camp to get the men, but when they returned his body had washed away. Neither boys body was ever recovered. After this sad experience grandfat! her or Thomas Jefferson Robinson bought a wagon and a team and came the balance of the way by land as there was no other means of transportation west of the Mississippi at that time. After arriving in Cass county, Texas late in 1869 and living there until 1872 he homesteaded 160 acres of land in the north side of Cass county, Texas." Contact: KLCoombs@aol.com Five other relatives from different branches also researching this line. Roberts, William William Roberts' father may have been Scots/Welsh. His mother was probably a Cherokee or Delaware Indian. He knew Indian songs, chants and dances that she taught him. William was born in the Wilburn or Willman township of the Louisiana territory. This became Cape Girardeau Co., Missouri Territory, then finally Conway Co., Arkansas. William moved to Arkadelphia and may have made a stop in Fannin County in 1847 (where he married his third wife, Jane H. Jones) before finally settling in Navarro County, TX. William was about 5'11" and weighed about 180 lbs. He never smoked or drank. He was converted and became a Christian in his twenties. William was called "Uncle Billy" by everyone. He helped start several churches in Navarro County and he also donated land for the first high school in Navarro County. He raised orphans and census records show he raised the son of his second wife (who died a few months after their marriage). He grew the first bale of cotton in Navarro County. My great-grandfather Charlie Lee Roberts wrote about him, "Great Grandfather William Roberts was religious. He lived until his eighties and in his last years was almost blind, but decline to use glasses - saying if God wanted him to be that way, he would not have it otherwise. William Robers lived his last years a resident of Brownwood, TX, with a daughter by his first wife, Tabitha." I would love to talk with anyone who knows more about William Roberts' roots. hr2hs@earthlink.net SHEEN http://www.lonestargenealogy.com/bound/boundr.html
