    1. re: ROBERTSON/ROBINSON, JONES, MIXON, BROWN, SMITH, WELTY, HARRIS,
    2. Debby
    3. I am looking for the parents of my GGGfather- DANIEL ROBERTSON/ROBINSON. I think the name might have been originally Robertson but not sure. He was born about 1820 in Cedar Creek, Dickson County, Tennessee. He married NANCY JONES in Dickson, April 1,1837 by William Moseley a Preacher of the Gospel. Two of the witnesses were JOHN MIXON and GEORGE WASHINGTON ROBINSON. This is according to Nancy's CW pension records. My GGFather's (THOMAS WARREN) obit stated he was born in Cedar Creek also. Daniel had 4 children born in Cedar Creek before they moved to Illinois about 1950-MARTHA BORN ABOUT 1837, REBECCA CAROLINE born about 1865 married GEORGE BROWN, WILLIAM M., THOMAS WARREN(1848) married JULIA REED, ARAMINTAS MCFADDEN, DICEY ANN BAKER and PARTHENIA AVERITTE and DANIEL(5/14/1849) married SARA ALLEN MUSICK-1897. They then had children born in Illinois- JAMES C.(8/18/1851) married NANCY WELTY OR NELTY, NANCY H.(7/18/1853) married FIRTH SMITH, CHARLES(2/11/1856) and MARGARET E.(5/23/1859) married JAMES HARRIS, and a child that died in infancy. Daniel died in the CW in May, 1864. George W. Robinson married JANE JONES and I don't know if they came from the same family or not. I suspect they were probably brothers. I know George was present at the birth of 2 of their children in Illinois. I think Daniel's father might have been ABRAHAM but just not sure. I assume he lived with parents or whatever after he married since he is not listed by name on any 1840 census. I am not sure of all of the marriages listed above but I believe most of them are correct. My aunt said she remembered an Uncle Willie Robinson coming to visit them at times. He and his wife lived in Paris, TN at the time. Any help would be appreciated. This has been one of my brick walls for several years so I thought I would try again for any info.

    1. Missing Robinson
    2. My only documented Robinson ancestor appears first in the 1860 census of Pickens County, AL - already married with three small children. Elizabeth Robinson Williams' tombstone shows her date of birth as March 23, 1835. All census records in which she appears (1860, 1870, 1880) show that she was born in Mississippi. I cannot find her in the 1850 census (age 15) in any county, any state. The 1880 census states that both her parents were born in NC. Two other girls named Elizabeth Robinson found in 1850 in neighboring Greene County (AL) and Lowndes County (MS) have been proven not to be my ancestor. I have not found a record of her marriage to H. G. Williams about 1853 in either AL or MS. The naming patterns of the children of Elizabeth's first born son seem to follow known family names, except for the first grandson, who was named Walter Isaac (Williams). Larry

    1. looking for info for any of these lines that include a person named Walter Robinson in mid 1850s.

    3. Does anyone have access to birth marriage or death records for Georgia in order to look up marriage records 1845-1849 and death records in 1858 Georgia? How can I look up birth records in Georgia for the three children of "Walter" and Sarah F Robinson? I am searching for any leads to find my big "Brick Wall" person. I have some newly found info I thought I would share and ask you all about. I found these names and families who I am trying to make a connection with: There was a Peter Robinson who was a physician in 1850 Coosa AL, no son Walter listed, and his son William did not marry a Sarah and did not have a son Walter in 1857 and he did not die in 1858. Probably not directly related to my unknown first name Robinson guy. There is also a listing for a Walter Robinson who was age 32 in 1850 NC who was a Miner. Probably not my guy either if he was married with kids in 1850. There is a Walter Robinson in Fishkill, NY in 1850 listed with a Duncan (age 63) and Mary (age53) Robinson. This Walter is 24 or 26 and a farmer, and listed next to an Elizabeth (sister or wife?) age 21. Probably also not my guy if he is not listed with a wife Sarah and a daughter Mary born 1848-49. There is a listing for a Walter in Virginia in 1850, but he was born Jan of 1850 to L.H. and Lucy Robinson so he couldnt be my guy. I have a listing for a Walter Robinson in 1840 Carroll County Georgia. He is next to two John Robinsons and an Archibald Robinson. I think this Walter might be the same as Walter J. listed below. I thought he was my guy for some time but I cant make the puzzle pieces fit just yet. Anyone with info on this line, especially this Walter, please email me so I can verify what happened to this Walter Robinson (presumed son of John Robinson.) CLOSEST MATCH BUT SO FAR IS STILL NOT MY GUY: There is a Walter J Robinson age 40 listed in Florida in 1860 with wife F. A. and son Walter age 2. He ran a dry good store. I also found a Walter Robinson age 49 with wife Frances A. and a son Walter age 12 in 1870 Early Co Georgia. This family also had a daughter Fannie like mine has, about the same age. Is this the same Walter from 1840 Carroll County Census? Where was he in 1850? What do you know about this family??? This Walter's wives info are not the same, and I have my Walter age 4 listed in 1860 census with his mother and stepfather in Louisiana. So, he is probably not my guy either, no matter how much I like him or how similar the stories are. My BIG BRICK WALL ROBINSON GUY, probably named Walter, is a male who married my Sarah F (Calhoun?) and had at least three children: Mary b1848-49 ish, Emma C born 1851, and Walter John b1857, all born in Georgia. We are assuming his death in 1858. There were land records in Texas that point to death: land going to"heirs of" Walter Robinson in 1858. I have Sarah remarrying in 1859 in Alabama and living in LA in 1860. Her new husband, Dr Allen P. Morris fathered James O Morris and Sarah F Morris (aka Fannie?) Sarah the mother died in 1869 and the Robinson and Morris kids went to Texas around 1875-80. Walter, age 13, is missing from the 1870 census but his siblings are there. Walter can be found living with his sister Emma C Robinson Brandon in 1880 Coryell County Texas. Mary Robinson MAY BE the same Mary Collier Robinson who married a Burdick. Does anyone know these families or have any other or new resources I should try? Does anyone have access to birth marriage or death records for Georgia in order to look up marriage records 1845-1849 and death records in 1858 Georgia? How can I look up birth records in Georgia for the three children of "Walter" and Sarah F Robinson? Any help will be appreciated. Much appreciated! Thanks, Diane

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Robinson, Shaw, Trafton, Cushman, Spaulding Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3cDBAIB/8040 Message Board Post: My Robinson line goes back to the immigrant ancestor William Robinson who m Margaret Beach. In 1783 Increase Robinson and family migrated from MA to Sumner, ME, now Oxford County. Some of Increase's grandch later migrated north and settled the town of Sherman in Aroostook county ME [1830's] along with other pioneer families Cushmans, Traftons, Perry's. The Shaw line also migrated then, two of the Shaw sisters married into these lines and moved north also. [Spaulding Robinson m Ruth Bucknam Shaw and Lydia Shaw m Theodore Trafton. I am descended of Spaulding and Ruth] While I am fine tuning details and filling in documentation, most of the mysteries of this line for me are gone. I am posting this in hopes of helping others researching this line, as well as to connect with some who can help fill in the gaps. I have considerable info on this family. The following taken from "Personal Sketches: East Sumner History Book" "Dea. Increase Robinson, the progenitor of tthe Robinsons that have since lived in Sumner, was born in 1739, and his wife, Rebecca Bourne, in 1733. They moved into town from Pembroke, Mass., in 1783, being the sixth family to settle in the east part of the town. They brought with them eight children, four boys and four girls.... [among them my ancestor who m Patty Spaulding] Dea. Increase Robinson was, in his early days in the new settlement, a useful citizen, as he erected the first saw, shingle and grist mills, and opened the first place for the sale of groceries. He also was a cooper, and made many useful wooden utensils for pioneers' use. The first public religious meetings were held in his house. The house that he built was the first framed house in town, and is still in good condition, and occupied by some of the fourth generation. His son, Increase, Jr., suceeded him in the mills, and he in turn was succeeded by his son, Dea. Sharon Robinson, who operated the mills many years, and lived and died at the old homestead. "Dea. Sharon, as he was familiarly called, was also a useful and respected citizen, a devoted christian man, a hard-working and honest person, with a character above reproach. His son, Sharon, Jr., at date of this sketch, still lives upon the old farm, ans was the author of the three-page account of the Sumner Centennial, published in the Lewiston Evening Journal, June 11, 1898." NOTE: The house referred to in the above historical sketch is now the Increase Robinson Library, housing historical and genealogical materials of this family and related lines.
