The following is from the CD “Genealogy and History of the Family Robinson”. It is the "Robinson Genealogy; Descendants Of The Rev. He appeared as Lucy Long at Madame Thielman’s Theater, St. Louis, MO. He also traveled with June and Turner’s Circus, and about 1851 traveled under the title of the “Robinson Family,” playing farces, singing quartettes, comic songs, etc. In 1867, Mr. Robinson was head and front of the largest show the world had ever seen. He took the first show across the continent. After a year in California, he returned in 1873. His was the first tent show around the Lakes, in a chartered steamboat, making a six weeks tour, and traveling 3300 miles. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Robinson, Brown Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3cDBAIB/2963.3009 Message Board Post: Hi John, You seem to be very knowledgeable about the Robinson circus family... and according to my family lore, we have connections to the circus Robinsons. My maternal great-grandparents were George F. Brown, born 1849 in Ohio, and Clara Gordon Robinson, born 1850 in Ohio. My guess is that both were born in Columbus, Ohio. They married about 1872-1874 and had two children...between 1880 and 1900 the family moved to Pittsburgh, Pa. I’ve researched Clara Gordon Robinson and found a strong possibility for a father – Joseph Robbinson, born ab. 1806 in Connecticut (note: I’ve found Joseph only in the 1860 census. In later censuses, Clara cites England, Massachusetts, and Vermont as the birthplace for her father). In the 1860 census, he is a clerk and seems to be a single father with the following daughters: Eliza, Lois, Cynthia, Sarah, Carry G. (Clara), and Jennie. All were born in Ohio between 1835 and 1852. Are there Columbus, Ohio Robinsons in your line? Does Joseph Rob(b)inson sound at all familiar? And 15 years after her death, I hear my mother talking about the “Robinson Family Circus” – was there such a thing? She could’ve morphed “Famous” to “Family” or meant that it was the Robinson’s family circus... but just checking. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance! - Billie Smith Culler
