Adaline would have only been 44 when that child was born. There was probably a number of children born before this one. Women often had children up until the 50s. If I was researching this family I would look into this man being the sheriff. Check futher into old newspapers in the area. Was there an election for the sheriff? Sounds interesting. Good Luck.

I am researching for my friend. I haven't been able to find much at all on her family but there is apparently a file on MyTrees and I can't afford to pay to look at it (and the extraction method is no longer available, says no documents)... so I'm hoping for help here. The people I am trying to get more info on are an Adeline/Adaline Avella ROBINSON born abt Aug. 1858 (we're told could be Robeson/Robison as well) who had a daughter named Avella Millicent MCFARLAND born 1902 ? (seems a long time from Adelines d.o.b.!). From what limited info I've found she (Adaline) married William Thomas MCFARLAND in/around 1873 in Stanton County, Nebraska. That's all I "know" from my internet searching. The general family history is that they lived in/around Nebraska and South Dakota and were Sioux indian (maternal side). I also found a news report from the Nebraska area at the time listing a Mr W.T. McFarland born 1845 as the postmaster and later sheriff for Stanton County and it mentions him marrying a Miss Adeline Robinson in 1873 so I'm assuming this is the same couple but who knows. According to family stories, my friend's grandmother (Betty Crow/e) was Millicent (McFarland-Crow(e)s daughter, who was the daughter of Avella Millicent McFarland who was the daughter of Adeline Robinson. As is often the case, my friend's Grandma claims a Native American link directly to Sitting Bull (I think it was Ms. Robinson who was supposedly his daughter, from one of his last wives). ;-) I am doubtful, but I am not doubtful overall that there is Sioux heritage here. It's just finding out exactly HOW and WHO that's the hard part of course. Grandma says her Grandma was born and lived on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota (right?). Her mother might have been born there too but was 1/2 white. When you do the math the dates of birth don't add up with Grandma's history and it seems like there are too many moms in all that unless they had babies very young, but she is very forgetful and every time we call her the story changes and the names too, so I've been trying to sort it out, and the women seem to like re-using middle names as first names which makes it worse! My friend's Grandma also says she doesn't have a birth certificate and she was born in 1931! How can that be? Please, if anyone can help with these people it will be very much appreciated. I had a reasonable time finding out about my own family history because there were German immigrants fairly recently and lots of unusual names, and a lot of it had been done already by other family members....... this, however, is proving to be a much bigger challenge for me!

    3. John Beverley Robinson (21 February 1821 – 19 June 1896) was elected mayor of Toronto in 1856. He was Lieutenant Governor of Ontario between the years 1880–1887. He was born in York (Toronto) in 1821, the son of Sir John Beverley Robinson, an important political figure in Upper Canada. He attended Upper Canada College. During the Upper Canada Rebellion of 1837, Robinson served as aide-de-camp to Sir Francis Bond Head. He later studied law and was called to the bar in 1844. He became an alderman in Toronto during the 1850s, including a term as mayor. He was elected to the 6th Parliament of the Province of Canada representing Toronto in 1858. He helped promote the Northern Railway and served as president from 1862 to 1875. He represented Algoma in the Canadian House of Commons in 1872 and represented West Toronto in 1878. He suffered a stroke while preparing to give a speech at Massey Hall in Toronto and died in 1896. I believe that this Robinson must have been the owner of the Robinson House that later became the Museum in Toronto. I will continue to look for the paperwork on it.

    1. Photographic Archive
    2. Has anyone thought about doing an archive of Robinson photographs? I know that I have several that I'd love to share with folks, if nothing more than to see if they possibly recognize anyone in them. I've had little success with my branch of Robinsons beyond my great-grandfather, probably because they came from an area that had another Robinson family who were prominent in Gaston County, North Carolina and York, South Carolina. I guess what I'm hoping is that someone who might not recognize the names in my branch might recognize someone in the pictures. Does anyone out there think that this might worth a try? We could post the names of the folks we know in the pictures along with the place where they were taken. At this point, I'm willing to try just about anything to go beyond my great-grandfather. 3. Yes, I do remember her visiting! It was amazing as descendants came from all over the world to see Hewick. I have a copy of the three sisters, in a B&W print, that I ordered from the Museum in Ontario, Canada, I think. I am not sure of the Morris Robinson picture. I did have the Right Rev. John Robinson, D.D., the Bishop of London hanging in the foyer. There is a book that you might try to find by Julia Jarvis, published in Canada a number of years ago... ROBINSON, CHRISTOPHER, army officer, lawyer, and office-holder; b. 1763 in Virginia, probably the son of Peter Robinson and Sarah Lister; m. 1784 to Esther Sayre, and they had six children, including Peter*, John Beverley*, and William Benjamin*; d. 2 Nov. 1798 at York (Toronto). Born into a family prominent in the public life of Virginia, Christopher Robinson was raised in the household of John Robinson, apparently his uncle. He was educated at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, but he may have left the college in 1780 or 1781 to go to New York to aid the loyalist cause. On 26 June 1781 he was commissioned ensign in the Queen’s Rangers under the command of John Graves Simcoe*. He served with the regiment until the surrender at Yorktown, Virginia, on 19 Oct. 1781, after which the Queen’s Rangers were moved north to Nova Scotia, most of the men settling in what is now the parish of Queensbury in New Brunswick. Since the regiment had been placed on the regular establishment of the British army in 1782, Robinson was able to retire on half pay. Lack of opportunity in New Brunswick probably prompted Robinson to move in 1788 to Quebec where he and his family settled first at L’Assomption, and later at Berthier-en-Haut (Berthierville). Robinson may have begun articling to become a lawyer at this time. He seems to have remained in contact with Simcoe, who was appointed lieutenant governor of Upper Canada in 1791. Simcoe took care to find employment for disbanded officers of the Queen’s Rangers, and in 1792, shortly after his arrival in Upper Canada, he appointed Robinson surveyor general of woods and forests there. The Robinsons moved to Kingston that year. Robinson’s work as surveyor general meant constant travel about the province examining reserve lands, arranging rent collection for leased reserve land, licensing the cutting of timber, and identifying potential naval timber. In 1794 he was licensed to practise law in Upper Canada and two years later he was elected member of the House of Assembly for Ontario and Addington. No record of the proceedings of the assembly survives for his period of service, except for the 1798 session. Robinson played an active role that year and sponsored a bill, which never became law, “to enable persons migrating into this province to bring their negro slaves into the same.” In 1797 he had been involved in the establishment of the Law Society of Upper Canada and he became a bencher of the society. Money problems haunted Robinson all his life. Whether because of his style of life or because of his continuing ill health, his income was never sufficient. He acquired a great deal of land, but it was not a liquid asset. At the time of his death in 1798 he was in debt to William Willcocks*, whom he had been unable to repay because of expenses incurred in moving to York earlier that year. Of better family and education than most of the loyalists who came to Canada, Christopher Robinson was nevertheless able to obtain official preferment only because of his link with Simcoe. He seems always to have been disappointed that the more comfortable life to which he felt his birth, education, and loyalty entitled him did not materialize. One of the few Robinsons from Virginia who supported the loyalist cause, he was cut off from most of the family. Robinson died suddenly on 2 Nov. 1798 after returning to York from a long trip on horseback. The cause of his death is uncertain, but his son John Beverley remembered it as an acute attack of gout aggravated by cold and exposure. R. E.
