Sate. I waited too long to begin the research and my mother is now gone. His family may have changed their name from Robertson to Robinson. I will travel back to Michigan in about a year to see what I can find. Of course I am just assuming he was born in Michigan. Again, Thank you for the information.

    1. The Census Taker (humor)
    2. April White
    3. THE CENSUS TAKER It was the first day of census, and all through the land The pollster was ready..a black book in hand He mounted his horse for a long dusty ride His book and some quills were tucked close by his side A long winding ride down a road barely there Toward the smell of fresh bread wafting, up through the air The woman was tired, with lines on her face And wisps of brown hair she tucked back into place She gave him some water...as they sat at the table And she answered his questions...the best she was able He asked of her chidren...Yes, she had quite a few The oldest was twenty, the youngest not two She held up a toddler with cheeks round and red His sister, she whispered, was napping in bed He noted each person who lived there with pride And she felt the faint stirrings of the wee one inside He noted the sex, the color, the age The marks from the quill soon filled up the page At the number of children, she nodded her head And saw her lips quiver for the three that were dead The places of birth she "never forgot" Was it Kansas? or Utah? or Oregon...or not? They came from Scotland, of that she was clear But she wasn't quite sure just how long they'd been here They spoke of employment, of schooling and such They could read some and write some...though really not much When the questions were answered, his job there was done So he mounted his horse and he rode toward the sun We can almost imagine his voice loud and clear "May God bless you all for another ten years" Now picture a time warp...its' now you and me As we search for the people on our family tree We squint at the census and scroll down so slow As we search for that entry from long, long ago Could they only imagine on that long ago day that the entries they made would effect us this way? If they knew, would they wonder at the yearning we feel And the searching that makes them so increasingly real We can hear if we listen the words they impart Through their blood in our veins and their voice in our heart Author Unknown --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? "My" U.S. Robinson was born ca. 1864 in Jefferson (Adams Co) OH. The last mention I've found in census is in 1880, when he's living in Brush Creek (Scioto County) OH with his parents. I also have been told he married a Fannie V. Bailey, but I have no proof to this effect. I doubt we are sharing this relative, but who knows?

My father, who died in 1982, traced our family back to Scotland, but there is one weak link in the chain, and that is the link you mentioned. Milas Jay Robinson's parents were Thomas Robinson and Jane Downs Robinson,Thomas's first cousin. My father believed that Thomas's parents were John Robinson and Jane Downs, the aunt of Thomas's wife, but he could not find any records of children of John and Jane. Others who have posted believe that this is the case. Please email me at Michael_Robinson@baylor.edu, or call at 254-776-6722. Take care.

    3. THANK YOU for telling us how to go to "Edit" and "Select all"!!! There was no way I could read it with that beautiful background in the way. If only it were in "Bold" print might have helped, but this is something I'd never known to do before. AGAIN............THANK YOU ----- Original Message ----- From: <robinson@svs.net> To: <ROBINSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 14, 2006 1:57 PM Subject: Re: Christopher Robinson This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. There are a lot of genealogy sites like that. Just a tip for those that have never tried it... If you will go to the "Edit" menu on your browser and click "Select all" it will highlight all of the text and make it easy to read. ______________________________
