Will you be making use of dna in your listing of John Robinsons? Not all persons with the same name are related genetically. Our group is connected by dna as a family but we do not know the names of the persons who link our family together. And that is our quest, to search and find linking persons. It seems that our dna group is fairly large even though our ancestor from across the pond is one man or possibly two. Author: wrobin7206 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.robinson/9563.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, Robert Erwin Robinson was born in SC around 1810-1813. I am pretty sure that his father was James Erwin Robinson, b. 29 Aug 1788 in NC. His father was John Harvey Robinson b. 22 Oct 1763. The EKA is James Robinson (father of John Harvey) b. 1725 in Va. There are currently 3 active researchers working this line: Barbara Robinson McLaurine, Duane Robinson and myself. Robert Erwin is our GGGGfather. Barbara has done a tremendous amount of research in Monroeville AL, Duane has provided us with verbal histories and history of his entire line from Texas. Duane and I have submitted our DNA and confirmed that we are absolutely related. I have had two researchers document the entire Robinson population of Barnwwell SC and it appears that James Erwin Robinson is a good fit. Robert left Barnwell around 1849 and his family does not appear on any census in SC, AL GA or TN in 1850. We suspect he was on the Federal Road on his way to Burnt Corn. Robert died at a fairly young age in 1859 in Burnt Corn AL and we have a copy of his will. The Robinson's intermarried with the Erwin's in NC and hence the middle name Erwin appears in two generations. The Robinson name appears on the Erwin side and I have identified the marriage that brought the two families together. The Erwins were prominent in Barnwell as well as NC. There are three land deeds from AL that bear Robert Erwin Robinson's name. Barbara also found a tax record showing that Robert lived next door to a William Robinsonwho was much older. Robert did not leave much documentation behind and Duane says that he was not well liked by anyone on his side of the family. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. Our government has no family contact for the men listed. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. This line married into the COCKS/COX line. The best to you in your research. Teresa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I know they moved to Monroe Co Alabama in 1858. I show Robert in Barnwell in 1840 but cannot find him in any other census. I did find his land grant in 1858. Any information would help. Thanks, Karen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
