This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: revdianie Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.robinson/9652/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Martha Robinson b 1749/50 married William Bratton d1816 Bratton family tradition states that Martha Robinson/Robeson/Robertson was born on a ship bearing her parents to the American colonies from Northern Ireland. She grew up learning about herbal medicines and home health care from her Ulster=Scots elders in VA or NC. She brought that knowledge with her when she married William Bratton and moved with him to the area that would become York County in the 1760s. She likely doctored her family, her neighbors, and her husband's slaves. One story that illustrates her talents as a healer took place after the Battle of Huck's defeat, fought near her homestead on July 12 1780. British casualties were brought into her house after the morning battle. It appears that most of them were able to leave the Brattons by that evening, with one notable exception. Captain John Adamson, a Loyalist officer who came to Mrs Bratton;s aid the previous day, fell off his horse during the battle and was impaled on a pine sapling. He stayed with the Brattons for several days, while Martha nursed his wound. >From this posting http://chmuseums.org/_pdf/Brattons_Family_of_Physicans.pdf If anyone knows anything else about this person and her parents/siblings please let me know. I am studying the physicians in the Robinson family (who were in Jasper & Newton Co GA mid 1800s.)Especially about Luke Robinson b 1738ish who lived in NC, SC, and descendants in GA. Author: revdianie Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.robinson/9637.2.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Shirley, I appreciate the offer. I am looking for any info on my Robinson connection. I am descendant of "Dr. " William C Robinson b 1824 GA, of Jasper & Newton County GA. He married Sarah Frances ...Morgan? and they had three children together. They had a volitile marriage, and at his death in 1858 he had disavowed her and put her out of his will, and in his will gave custody rights of his children over to his brothers! This went on in courts for some time, and I believe from what I can tell so far that she eventually took the kids and ran, getting married just across state line in AL to one of his business partners named Dr Allen P. Morris. I know some of William C's family story. He was son of John, John L Robinson, son of Luke Robinson. I do not know what the middle initial "C" stood for in this family line. I do not know how he was educated as a physician, and if he was a self taught plantation doctor or if he had some kind of medical apprenticeship or school training. I would like anything on this Robinson line at all, if anyone has anything I would greatly appreciate sharing. Thanks! Don, our prayers are with you, and with your family. You have done so much for the Rob*son project and research, and I just want to say thanks so much for your dedication to all things "family." Drake, CPA Sent: Tuesday, November 17, 2009 4:24 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [ROBINSON] Robinson DNA Website First, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to everyone concerned about the DNA project for my neglect of the results site. My mother ended her 27 year fight with Parkinson's disease this past August. I was with her for a couple of weeks after we decided to cease all life sustaining care. I would sing to her several times a day and even though she seemed completely unaware of her surroundings, she would do an occasional "bed dance," especially to Blue Suede Shoes. Her final passing peaceful and she didn't seem to be suffering much discomfort, especially when compared to what her life had become towards the end. We will miss her greatly but I am looking forward to rejoining her when my time finally comes. In February, we found that my Father's kidneys were failing and that he would need dialysis from here on out. We were concerned that his heart couldn't stand the strain, but so far things have been working as well as could be expected. He is in a nursing home now, but since mom died, his stress level has decreased substantially and aside from the dialysis treatments, he is doing better than he has in a long time. My family situation and my work load are the reasons for my neglect but that doesn't justify people paying good money for these tests and then waiting months to see their results. I have taken some steps that should help. FamilyTreeDNA provides a link to a public website fro each project. I have just completed that site for the Rob*son project. Results are automatically posted to this site as soon as they are available from the lab. This is done by computer without the need for human intervention. I have tried to arrange it as close to our current site as possible. This public site will not display the names of the Earliest Known Ancestors and all new results will display in the unassigned category until I move them to their appropriate group. At least the results will be available immediately. The link is: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/robinson/ I will continue to maintain our current site. The link to the public site can be found at our main project website at both the top of the results page and at the main DNA project page.
