    2. David, 4. Forgot to add, look at land records. If the father had land when he died, the kids may have had to sign quit claim deeds before the land could be sold. David, 1. Look for a will for their father, I suppose you have already done that. 2. Look for obituaries for the father, mother and brothers, one of them might mention the sisters having been deceased already, or married, or where they currently live. 3. Search the 1860 Fountain Co. IN and/or Marion Co. IA census for any and all Margaret's and Frances'. Put in the fields the state they were born in (if known) and the year of birth with a 2 to 5 year span. Did any of these ladies (that show up in the search) name their children family names? live in the same township as the other Robinsons? is the surname a name that was a neighbor in 1850? etc. best to you in your research Teresa P.S. My Robinsons were in Hamilton County IA by 1865, coming from Indiana (poss. 1830, and 1840), Missouri (1850), Illinois (1860) with the father, George Robinson b. ca 1802 in VA, died ca 1852 (drowned in a river). Even though George was born in VA on the 1850 census, his children all state he was born in Ireland on 1870, 1880, 1900 census records. I suspect it was George's father who was born in Ireland.   <snip> After 1850, I cannot find one shred of evidence or info on the two sisters which is conclusive.  The only unconfirmed data I have found is either totally coincidental or 100% dead on - in Webster Co., IA, there is a Margaret Robinson who married a Thomas Walton in 1888.  If this was "my" Margaret, she would be close to age 53 for this marriage, which could be a second one or even a first, I guess.  Then, same Webster Co., IA is a Frances A. Robinson who married a Harry Cragg in 1866.  With those marriages, names and dates, you'd think I'd be able to find something.  But I have not been able to find any information on these two couples, in any census records, civil war pension docs, etc.  Perhaps someone out there can give me some new leads or areas to search.  I realize that the two marriages could just be coincidental and that the two sisters could have very well died after 1850. 1. [ROBINSON] John & Alice Robinson
    2. Sharon Vaughn
    3. Happy New Year to everyone, since a new year, new decade I thought would try once more on my Robinson. My grandfather is James Garfield Robinson son of John and Alice Robinson. James G Robinson was born between December 31, 1890 /1892. My mother was 3 when he died and her mother died when she was 14. What my mother recalls is that her father was raised by his two older sisters, she didn't know their names. I have three documents for James G. Robinson; the Death certificate, 1920 census, and the marriage certificate. I will list the information off the certificates. According to the death certificate of James G Robinson , his birthday was December 31, 1890 in Penne (the was something type and the Penne was over that type it's hard to read) Mom said he was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania (I haven't found anything so far). It list his parents as John Robinson And Alice-unknown. He died May 23, 1928 In San Bernardino California. His body was moved to Valparaiso Indiana where he was buried at St. Paul's cemetery that according to the Valparaiso newspaper. In 2007 I went back to St. Paul's cemetery and they don't know where he at. 1920 census: Birth est. 1892, birth place as Pennsylvania, single, white, male, he was a lodger at Edward R. Marsland home. He could read and write He and his parents all were born in Pennsylvania. James was machines. The 1920 census also show Grace Fanning living in San Bernardino California by the address they had they lived within a mile or so each other. However, I have a postcard from James to Grace dated July 19,1919 she at the time was in New Mexico and he worked on the railroad. We are assuming that Grace took a trip from Chicago to New Mexico where she met James on the train. I don't know how long or why she was in New Mexico. Marriage certificate. Holy Cross on 65th, Chicago IL it states that James G Robinson of Sam Bernardino California age 29 and Grace Fanning of Chicago cook county IL age 28 were married on the Nov 15, 1920. There was a note that the marriage was dispensation for mixed religion so we know that he not Catholic. After they were married they went back to San Bernardino CA. In 1921 they had a son named James Garfield Robinson Jr. Sometime between 1921 and 1923 they moved to Chicago and had their second son John Paul Robinson in June 1923. Between June 1923 and Oct 10, 1925 they moved back to San Bernardino and had my mother Donna Mae Robinson. By Oct 1927 they had moved back to Chicago IL. I believe it was to be close to Grace's family her mother died in Oct. 1927. In April 1928 they were back in San Bernardino CA and in May he died. Now Grace had James body moved to Valparaiso IN (that where Grace was born and where her parents are buried). They had a service back there in St. Paul's church and he was buried in St. Paul Cemetery. I have newspaper clipping stating that and I have a copy of the record of Interments it show him as Robertson, James place of birth is CA and his age as 36 (which would put his birth at 1892). There were lots of errors on the Record of Interments except for the dates they matched. What I have done so far is gone back to census and looked for James Robinson in the 1900 census I found a James Robinson age 8 living at the home of William and Helen Tompson as a boarder. I haven't been able to confirm this is my Robinson and he doesn't show up with this family in 1910, in 1910 I find another James Robinson (listed as Janks Robinson) age 19 as a boarder in Pittsburg ward 4, Allegheny, Pennsylvania again I can't confirm this as my James and by 1920 he in San Bernardino CA which is listed above. Thank you for your time. Sharon Vaughn 2939 Rockcreek Ct Richland WA 99354 509-375-4732

    3. 4. That's one area I haven't looked at. I did receive info a while back that a William Robinson (that's the father of these children) owned a "tavern" in Marion Co. Now I'm not sure if that William is the one or not, but I don't believe there were more than one William Robinson in Marion Co. in 1860 time frame. 3. Teresa, Thanks for the tops. 1. Yes, I have tried to find a will in Marion Co., Iowa but am told there isn't one. That doesn't mean there isn't as I received the 'no' from a researcher and not the county itself. 2. The parents both died in 1863 and 1865 - not sure about obits back then. I do have obits for the one brother (my 4th gr-grandfather) and there is no mention. I also have Civil War Pension docs for both brothers and no mention of the sisters. 3. I've done this but will try again. Sometimes coming back after several months reveals new things overlooked. I guess the other possibility is that they both died after 1850 and before 1860. 3. For some years I have been trying to break down this Robinson brickwall of mine.  I thought since it's a new year, I'd repost this. Two sisters - Margaret M. Robinson (abt 1835 - ?) born in Indiana and sister Frances A. Robinson (abt 1842 - ?) also Indiana.  Both were daughters of William Robinson (1805-1865) and Catherine A. May (1812-1863).  This family (along with their two sons) were in Fountain Co., IN in 1850.  By 1860, father, mother and the two sons are in Marion Co., Iowa.  (one of the sons is my line, so I have all his...and the brothers' info).  After 1850, I cannot find one shred of evidence or info on the two sisters which is conclusive.
