A NY passenger listing showed that Alma's mother Bridget (Kelly) Woolsey gave her residence as her daughter's address as 2425 36th Street, Astoria, Long Island in July 1929. I also found James' and Alma's entry on the 1930 Census which shows they were both born circa 1900/1, they had two children Ellanora (born circa 1922) and James (born circa 1926)but that is as far as I have managed to get so far with the Robinson line. William Robinson and recorded in the federal records. Wallace and Rebecca were Baptist by faith and so recorded by their grandson, James Franklin Robinson. It was after the year 1809 that Wallace put the oxen to the wagon and began his southerly and westward journey that was to eventually land him and most of his family in Texas. Bidding his native state farewell, his first stop was Alabama. Here he remained approximately thirty years. His wife, Rebecca, was not permitted to complete the journey to the far west. She passed away between 1840 and 1848. In the year 1840, Wallace and Rebecca were living in Sumter County, Alabama, and three of their children were living at home. A son between the ages of fifteen and twenty, and two daughters, one between the ages of ten and fifteen and the other between fifteen and twenty. According to other federal records this indicates the daughters were Britiannia and Nancy. There are six known children and there may have been more. They are as follows: Jane, born 1805 in North Carolina and married Joseph Litchfield; William, born 11 January 1809 in North Carolina and married Julia Lucinda Fulford 16 April 1828 in Marengo County, Alabama, second marriage to Irena Isabel Brent 15 November 1846 in Hinds County, Mississippi; John B., who remained in Louisiana when the rest of the family moved to Rusk County, Texas in 1848; Benjamin F., married to Eran Carter; Britiannia, born 1819 in Alabama and married to Lewis Alexander Matthews 9 September 1850, in Rusk County, Texas; Nancy, born in 1828! in Alabama, married to Richard Rhodes. In the year 1840 Wallace Robinson owned two slaves, a female under ten years of age and a female between twenty-four and thirty-six years of age. Shortly after the year 1840 Wallace and his family and some of his married children and their families, accompanied by a number of slaves, and traveling in ox drawn wagons, started that long trek westward. They reached the western part of the state of Mississippi and called a halt and lived in that state until the last month of the year 1892. Rev. William Robinson states that his last two children, Julia Ann and William Harrison, by his first wife were born in Mississippi. In the last month of the year 1842, the families again put the oxen to the wagon and traveled on westward. It was in the northern part of Louisiana that they again put the slaves to tilling the soil. They remained here for about five years. In the year 1897 the west was still calling and they could resist no longer. All the families were on the move again except for John B. Robinson, who chase to remain in Louisiana where his descendants live to this day. Wallace Robinson and his family, except for his wife, and Rev, William Robinson and his eight children and his second wife, along with the other families, arrived in Rusk County, Texas in 1848. In 1850 in Rusk County, Texas Britiannia was living at home until her marriage 9 September 1850. She was enumerated 28 October 1850 and lived in Dwelling 991. Nancy lived in Dwelling 990. Wallace, who was enumerated as William Robinson, lived in dwelling 489. He gave his age as sixty-nine and born in North Carolina. It is evident that his wile had passed away because the census records state that he was married within the year. Due to the fact that he was enumerated under the name of William, I believe his name to be William Wallace Robinson. He was using his other given name, William, instead of Wallace, a thing that so many of the members of a family did from census year to census year. This record may be found in Sumter County, Alabama, 1840, page 38, and Rusk County, Texas, 1850, page 560, dwelling 489. A. F. OATES Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.

I find it interesting that my 4th great grandfather, a William Robinso, born abt 1895 in DE, is believed to also have made way to Ohio where his wife, Catherine May, was born and then family moved to Indiana by 1850.  I've have yet to find his parents but always seem to run across other Robinsons from the MD/DE area going to OH, IN, IA.  Do you know if your Joseph Robinson was a Quaker or Methodist? As I stated in the original posting, I subscribe to this message board and receive queries through email. If I see a familiar name in the query, I run it through the data base and look for a match. Unfortunately, the names contained in the recent flurry of activity here aren't matching up to those contained in this publication. It occurs to me that perhaps I've not included enough information which may allow fellow researchers to make a connection. So, here is the line of descent from the earliest known ancestor (Thomas Robinson) down to William "Choctaw Bill" Robinson. It may also help to include that this branch of Robinsons was in the process of western migration as can be seen by William "Choctaw Bill" Robinson's slow but steady progress through Alabama, into Mississippi, then ultimately into Texas. His numerous descendants can't easily be defined by geography, but generally they remained in the State of Texas. Again, if you think your ancestor may be among those contained in this book, I'm always happy to do a look up at your behest. ~ Jeff Thomas Robinson B: 1675~1676, Pasquotank Co, NC. I am uncertain about the line, but there are so many similarities. Seeing the name James Madison Robinson is very interesting to me, as this is also my grandfathers name. I am wondering if the young James Madison could be a cousin or nephew, as the name has carried through generations. My grandfather also went to Texas during that year. We know that he took the same path. Our Robinsons eventually ended up in Ellis County, TX. I am curious if you have run into into the nickname "Bud"? I also have a "Wirt" which I believe could have been William Pratt (brother of Nancy Ann) and may have taken the Robinson name? Such a mystery - I would love to share any information we can put together. I have quite a collection of information, received from my uncle prior to his death. He spent many years researching the lineage, and never completed his endeavor. It is interesting that you say the family did not talk much about their history. My Grandfather! ended up in Oregon with the last name of Stovall. We never knew about any of our "Robinson" ancestors until my uncle started digging into the family tree, after Grandpa's death. You can email me direct if you like at [email protected] and we can further discuss our possible family relationships! Thanks so much for your time! This is what I presently have: Thomas Robinson was born in Ireland about 1800 and had a son Samuel (1820-25). Samuel was born in Doones Parish of Clones, County Fermanagh Ireland. Samuel married Jane Jones in the Parish of Clones, County Monaghan Ireland on 12 Mar 1846. Jane Jones was also born 1820-25 in Tully, Parish of Clones, Ireland and the daughter of John Jones. They had four sons. Robert (7/1/1859), Thomas, Samuel, and John. Robert and Thomas went to Scotland to work in the mills while Samuel stayed behind to run the farm. On the way down the river the smoke stack of the boat blew up and two sons of Thomas Jefferson Robinson died. One of the elder sons, James Madison Robinson saved my grandfathers life by getting part of the smoke stack off his arm so he didn't drown. After the accident the family bought a tean of horses and a wagon and came the rest of the way. They arrived in Jefferson, Texas the latter part of 1869. If you think this might be your family I have a little more information on them. They have been very hard for me to trace. My side of the Robinson family did not talk about their history very much.
