Hi Donna, Thanks for the information, especially on the information ususally containg in death certificates. I have been looking for the parents or birthplace of my gg grandfather, Joseph Loomer Thompson for years. Here is what I know ( I am recalling this from memory and not checking dates from my files). There are three Joseph L Thompsons who were born in the Westerly/Stonington area in the early 1800's: 1. Joseph Lewis Thompson, born about 1810, who was a sailor and died at sea about 1840 2. Joseph Latham Thompson who married Mary Pendleton and had a daughter Ophiela. He seems to have been a merchant. He is the JLT you found in Beamon. 3. Joseph Loomer Thompson, a farmer, who was born 1821 probably in Stonington and who died in North Stonington in 1887. He married Harriet Harvey in Charlestown in 1840. This couple are my gg grandparents. They had about 9 children. Warren P who died in East Greenwich in the 1890s (parents birthplace not listed), William H (I have no information on him), Joseph E who died in Westerly in 1899 (parent's birthplace not listed), George W ( who died in Stonington in 1900), and Thomas O who was married in North Stonington in the 1890's (probably a second marriage) are among the children that I know something about. There was also Sarah who was my mother's grandmother who died in Pawtucket RI. Yes, you have found my ggg uncle George W Thompson. He was a stone cutter in Westerly and that is him in the Westerly Directory. I have been searching the parents or birthplace of Joseph Loomer Thompson for about 10 years and have found a lot about him but nothing leads to his parents or to his birthplace. My current theory is that he might be the son of Nathan Thompson (born to John Thompson and Anna Rathbone of Westerly) and Sarah Babcock. This couple lived in Westerly and Stonington CT. Nathan died about 1840 in Westerly after living on the Stephen H Babcock farm in North Stonington. If you run across anything on Joseph Loomer Thompson or have any ideas that you think might help, I sure would appreciate you remembering me. QUESTION: My next step is to try looking in obituaries and probate records to see if I can find any clues there. What do you think? Is that a good/logical approach? Thanks for your help, Charlie King gg grandson of Joseph Loomer Thompson born 1821 someplace in CT On Sun, 9 Feb 2003 20:21:39 EST DonnaRNCEN@aol.com writes: > Hi Charlie, > From Beaman's Washington County Births, supplement 1760-1860 I > found a > Joseph L.
