    1. Re: [RIWASHIN] CROSSMAN, Samuel b. abt 1741
    2. Hi Shirley, Samuel must be the unknown Crossman who is in my files, married to Alice Potter, daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Brightman) Potter. For a long time the will of William Potter , Benjamin's father, had been mistake to think he had named "Atson Crossman" but it is Alice Crossman, Benjamin's daughter. Your Potter lline is like this:Direct Descendants of Nathaniel Potter 1 Nathaniel Potter 1616 - 1644 b: 1616 in Newport Pagnell, Bucks, England d: 1644 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island . +Dorothy Unknown 1617 - 1695/96 m: 1636 b: 1617 in England d: February 19, 1695/96 2 Nathaniel Potter 1637 - 1704 b: September 1637 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island d: October 20, 1704 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts .... +Elizabeth Stokes 1638 - 1704 m: Bef. 1665 in Portsmouith, Rhode Island b: October 28, 1638 in Newport Pagnell, Bucks, England d: Bef. 1704 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts .. 3 Nathaniel Potter 1675 - 1736 b: 1675 d: November 13, 1736 ...... +Joanna Wilbor 1668 - 1759 b: Abt. 1668 d: 1759 Father: William(1) Wilbor Mother: Martha Unknown ..... 4 William Potter 1689 - 1777 b: November 12, 1689 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts d: August 1777 in Richmond, Washington, Rhode Island ........ +Mary Browning or Brownell ....... 5 Benjamin Potter 1712 - 1774 b: April 15, 1712 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts d: Bef. 1774 ........... +Mary Brightman 1710/11 - m: July 03, 1735 b: March 15, 1710/11 in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts d: in Richmond, Rhode Island Father: Thomas Brightman Mother: Penelope Unknown ......... 6 Alice Potter 1743 - b: Abt. 1743 in Richmond, Rhode Island m. Unknown Crossman I share part of this line down to Nathaniel and Elizabeth Stokes. My paternal grandmother descended from their daughter Mary who married Samuel Wilbor. My primary Potter line comes down from Ichabod Potter, son of the older Nathaniel and brother to the one who married Elizabeth Stokes. I have the following notes on William Potter, father of Benjamin:William Potter's will was written in Richmond in 1774, proved there 4 Aug 1777. It mentions an unnamed first wife who was the mother of at least his daughters Jane and Sarah. The will names his present wife Rebecca. It names his sons William, Benjamin, David and Nathaniel, daughters Jane Soule, Sarah Soule, Martha Hoxsie and Mary Kinyon, deceased. The will mentions the children of his son Benjamin Potter who is called deceased. Said grandchildren are Smiton and Elijah Potter, Alice Crossman, Patience Crandall, Zilphia Potter, Jane Taber and Mary Luke. The will also names the children of his deceased daughter Mary Kinyon: William Kinyon, Peter Kinyon, Lydia Baker, Mary Kenyon and Deborah Kinyon. In 1774 there was a William Potter living in Richmond with himself, one male under 16 and one female above 16. If you go to Earl Crandall's file at rootsweb. you may get more info on these lines since Earl descended via Patience Potter who m. Caleb Crandall. The url for his site is:http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=newengland& id=I176 The site is still "up" although Earl passed away in March of last year. He was an excellent genealogist and had done quite a bit of work on this Potter branch. If you have any questions and send them via the web site there or the Crandall web site, they will automatically be forwarded to me :) You can also just send me a regular e-mail - if I can answer the question, I will. Good luck, Donna Potter in RI (BTW where do you have your info from on Samuel Crossman?)
