Hello, I am looking for ancestor information on a David F. Mackay who was b. somewhere in Scotland in 1871 and d. in Westerly, RI in 1912. He was married to a Mary Elizabeth Keenan (b Westerly 1876 and d Westerly 1961) and had a son, John Andrew Mackay(b Westerly 1897 and d 1966 Westerly). Thanks in advance for any help. This is in response to the inquiry as to the teacher at this school by the name of 'Lucy Randall'. She married a Clarke. (2nd marriage, I think). Her husband's name was Albert Clarke Sr. He passed away in 1962 at the age of 91. They lived in Wakefield. Somehow there were some 'Dawley's' in her family relationship as she often spoke of her Dawley grandchildren. Lucy had a son named 'Randall' that she also spoke of often. Lucy was 89 years old in 1972. Lucy was a member of the Rhode Island Writers Guild. She was a poet. Won many awards for her poetry. She even had a book published with some of her best poems. And one of her poems "Galilee Lights" was set to music. She was National Poetry Day Chairman for Rhode Island and her poems were read on TV. This was back in the 1960s. My dear Cousin Herb has just sent me a map of Rhode Island - vintage 1902. This certainly puts locations in a much better perspective for that time frame. My grandfather was a trustee in his school district. Too bad I can't ask him regarding this school. There was a 'Clarke' connection in our family tree as well. Bradford Clarke....(1778-1855) Abby (Abbie) Louisa Clarke (1829-1896) Edith
Does anyone have access to a 1910 census index of Rhode Island? Is there a Soundex index? Craig Baker

John and Hannah (Carpenter) Whitehorne died in North Dorset, Bennington Co., VT in the early 1840s. In the 1891 History of Windsor Co. book it says, "Abraham McWain married Abigail, daughter of John and Hannah (Carpenter) Whitehorn, in Wallingford, Rutland County (VT). Does anyone know of these two families? I'm mostly interested in finding out who the parents are of Hannah Carpenter.
R.E.: Westerly RI Italo-American Community Dear RI Washington County List Members; Cousins and Adopted Cousins, Can anyone out there give me an idea of what the history of the Italo-American community in Westerly is? As a "Swamper"...who happens to speak Italian...(it's a story in itself...)...for some time I've been aware of a community of what I believe to be Neapolitan and Sicilian immigrants from perhaps before the 1920s, in the Westerly area....and just don't know much about them, and would like very much to understand them better, and their role in the area(kind of the way I feel about the Narragansetts and the Niantics...don't know half enough about them, and yet....they're an essential part of the region's history, so I'd love to hear/know their side of the story!) I do not have the answer regarding this school or its exact location. But the name of the teacher, 'Lucy A. Randall' caught my attention. I have a picture of her with my Dad in front of my Dad's family home called 'Cliffmore'. I do know that Beaver River Valley was there or close and also in close proximity to Shannock, Kingston, etc. My Dad was one of her students. Lucy Randall resided at 'Cliffmore' for a while and became a close family friend. She later married and became Lucy Clarke. She corresponded some with me in her later years and always referred to herself as 'Aunt Lucy'. I do have a few pictures. One just says B.R.V. (Beaver River Valley) with no date and it appears to be a small class and teachers. Another B.R.V. picture of a small group of students is dated 1905-6. And yet another picture is with a larger group of children in front of a building that has the name on it "Beaver River District" and it is dated 1905. I'm betting that our relatives knew one another. Hope you get the information you are seeking. Edith
