    2. Hi, There were several churches in NK during that time. The First Baptist Church on Tower Hill Rd was formed in the 1700s. The Six Principle Baptist Church was also formed during that time. There was the Old Narragansett Church which later became St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Wickford. These names are off the top of my head - there must be others but I am most familiar with those. The records of these churches are in one of the volumes of Arnold's Vital Records - I cannot remember exactly which one, but someone on the list probably knows. There is also an old book with the history of the Old Narragansett Church - that has some of the records as well. Good luck with your search, Donna

    3. Hi Try checking this out http://www.rootsweb.com/~rigenweb/kingstown3.html Who are you looking for ? I'm a descendant of Elder William Northup who started most of the Baptist churches in the North Kingstown area. Most early worship took place in private homes with the Allenton Baptist Church being one of the earliest constituted churches. Charlie C Charlie Carpenter Washington County,R.I. 3. They may be Charlie but, Elder Thomas Baker started THE first church in all of the south country. Elder Thomas Baker was set forth by Roger Williams to establish the Six Pronciple Baptist Church in Kingstowne, in about 1666. Thomas was the second pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Newport. The early records for the Six Principle Church are in the possesion of a university in Ontario and they are not giving them up. 1. Re: [RIWASHIN] Re: George Douglass or Douglas North Kingstown
    2. James E. Barry
    3. Message Board Response I am also looking to make a Douglass connection beyond the George Douglass in our line. That George, born abt 1747 in N.K. married Annis Austin, dau of John Austin & Mary Sweet. Her birth abt 1744. Both George and Annis died in Bristol, R.I. 5/8/1823 and 11/26/1836. They had eight children, Parvis, Mahala, Amey, Joanna, Henry, Glenn, Martha and Stephen, all of whom died in Bristol. All of my information is what can best be described as "a work in progress". Parvis married Martha Sherman. Their first child Annis Austin, 10/28/1805, b. in So. Kingstown, married Joseph Northup, son of Christopher and Martha Briggs both of Exeter. The last child of Annis and Joseph, Eleanor, who married Emile Berard, was my grt-grandmother. Their first child, Florence Eleanor, married James Patrick Barry. Parvis and Martha had 10 children. My Douglass cousin who lives in Rehoboth (I am originally from Warren, R.I., adjacent to the Rehoboth and Swansea, Mass. state line) has a possible belief that the father of the George mentioned here, was also George and married a Mary Hathaway, of the Mayflower line of Hathaway, which of course remains to be confirmed, if at all, or at least until we find the connection to the right George Douglass. Since there were others with the two "s" Douglass name in south county during that time, there would have to be a strong possibility that they were connected. In addition to my cousin, I have confirmed all of the births and deaths at the Bristol, R.I. Town Hall on a number of my annual visits, as well as supporting info on their deaths through obits in the early Bristol newspapers. I am also a member of RIGS, however the value of that membership is yet to bear fruit. In addition to the Douglass line and connected by marriage, other names to be included to mention a few are, Arnold, Barry, Berard, Briggs, Chase, Coggeshall, Crowley, Gayton, Keating, Lawton, Northup, Potter, Maguire, Mc Cann, Pierce. If anyone would like to contact me off list at jebarryaz@juno.com or jebjmb@ earthlink. net I will be happy to share whatever information we have at present. I didn't find the names you spoke of,but the burials range from c-1766 to c-1908. I checked the burials in So.Kingstown,No.Kingstown,Coventry and Warwick with no matches as given.
