My only connection to Asa Worden is that he was married tro Abigail Thompson the daughter of my gggrandfather Robert Thompson. I'm just running down some twigs. Thanks for the information. Wallis Thompson
Charlie has replied with some helpful information. I am not sure what information you are looking for. But I do have some information in my database on Asa and I have a Worden notebook at home with more information on the family name. I belonged to the Worden Family Association for a while and they published (or used to) an excellent newsletter with family information and research. My interest in the Wordens was because they lived near my ancestors and the name appears in the records with my ancestors several times. Hi everyone, I've been working at sorting out one Smith family in Washington County - the one which married into the Gereardy family. These people are tough - that is all the Smiths, because there were so many and they don't appear to have a common connection, at least on paper. DNA tests would surely be interesting :)))) This is some of what I have - and before anyone comments on the Hopestill Smith/Northup connection, she was shown as the wife of Henry Northup in Exeter, RI records. She is commonly believed to have married Joseph Northup and indeed she may have done so, but I think she must have married Henry somewhere along the line. There are two Smiths listed in the 1800 census in SK, RI, one is Ephraim and the other Ebenezer. There are none in the 1790, which doesn't necessarily mean none were there.
Regarding this recent Smith surname post... I've been told that there's at least one old Smith line in South Kingstown/South County, and probably more than one...but the obvious difficulty of sorting out files and doing searches on...the most popular English surname...is daunting. ...Has anyone else heard about the Smith surname DNA project out there, to establish some of the N.E. Smith lines? ...Does anyone else have any thoughts about local "South County" RI Smith lines?

Thanks to hard-working volunteers Pam, Cindy G and Cindy L, I have recently put the following Passport records online on NaturalizationRecords.com (http://NaturalizationRecords.com/usa/ ) Passport applications are often a valuable source of genealogical information. NARA has passport applications from October 1795-March 1925. The U. S. Department of State has passport applications from April 1925 to the present. Some immigrants applied for passports to return home to visit family or friends. These records usually give a place of birth or at least the destination (which is often the home town) The first passport issued in USA was dated July 1796. My first new database is an Index to Special Passports 1829- 1887. This is for all states. http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/passports1829-87a.shtml Next is an Index to the Register of Passport Applications 1809- 1817 for all states, found at http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/passports1809.shtml At present 1809 and 1810 are online, the remaining years will follow as quickly as Cindy G and I get them transcribed. I have also added new surnames beginning with G, H and L to the existing Register of Passports 1834-1843 at http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/passports1834_a.shtml These are for all states. G Surnames are at http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/passports1834_g.shtml H Surnames are at http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/passports1834_h.shtml L Surnames are at http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/passports1834_l.shtml Surnames A to F were already online, and the rest will follow as quickly as they are transcribed. All records on NaturalizationRecords.com are FREE to use, please let each page load completely then scroll down to find the names. The index to Passport Records and an explanation of Passport Records as a research tool is at http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/passports.shtml You can pass this message on to anyone you think might be interested, and if you find an ancestor on any of my projects please let me know! Charlie and Donna, The early books in Westerly and surrounding towns are called Town Council and Probate. As the name implies they contain both the Town Council Meeting Minutes and Probate. I believe these are designated in Beaman as Vol XA:page# where "X" refers to the specific volume number. About 1800 the probate records were entered in separate volumes from the Town Council records. These would be the ones designated as Vol. XB:page#. So you have correctly assumed that Vol 4B is Vol 4 of the Probate Records. Hi Charlie, The entry in Beaman's only says that that couple were mentioned in a will but that does not mean that it would be Nathan's will. It could be the will of an aunt, uncle, sib, etc. In Westerly the early numbering of the books is also confusing as it is in many towns. It's possible what you want is the TCP book since many probates often ended up in the TCP records in those days. I have been to Westerly once and as I recall it took me a while to figure out which book would actually have what I needed. Beaman's is a great resource but it would have helped if the name of the person whose will someone was mentioned in was given. Donna Potter
