John & Ann, married 21 April 1721, were Quakers who lived in South Kingstown. They had ten children: Thomas, Sarah, Jeremiah, Hannah, Martha, Ann, Eunice, John, Mary & Ephriam. John's (1696-1777) parents were William T. Browning & Rebecca Wilbur, and Ann's (? - 1770) were Jeremiah Hazard & Sarah Smith. John was left 100 acres in Point Judith in his father's will. Thank you so much for your kind offer. I would be very interested in the Angell family which is mentioned in Vol.11. I am interested in Fish and Fisheries, although Odd Characters of Narragansett is appealing. It might have been shorter to write Normal Characters. ----- Original Message ----- From: "MAC" <macpac@acsalaska.net> To: <RIWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 28, 2003 9:27 PM Subject: [RIWASHIN] OLD STONE BANK VOL II Index > > Here is the ndex for Vol. II by John Williams Haley, "The Rhode Island > Historian", published in 1931 > > Rhode Island History > Earliest Rhode Island Visitors > Giovanni Verazzano > A Predecessor of Roger Williams *(William Blackstone) > Indian Currency > Anne Hutchinson > Mary Dyer, A Quaker Martyr > Cocumcussoc > Samuel Gorton > Captain Benjamin Church > Hazards of Rhode Island > Indian Traits and Customs > Builders of Pawtucket *(Jenks Family) > An Unsolved Murder *(Who killed Rebecca Cornell?) > King Philip > The Queen's Fort > Original Proprietors of Rhode Island > History of Lighting In Providence > Huguenots in Rhode Island > Rhode Island Ferries > The "Dr. Johnson" of Narragansett *(James MacSparran) > A Gentleman of Newport *(William Ellery, Jr) > Fish and Fisheries of Rhode Island > Hannah Robinson > A Terrible Man of War > A Great Colonial Architect > Sheriff Robinson > On the Hill Tower Road > The First Baptist Meeting House > "P'int, Judy, P'int" *(possible origins to the name "Point Judith") > Christmas in Narragansett > Brown and Ives > A Yankee from Cranston *(Israel R. I accidently hit enter before pasting in the Index. I am resending this - I only received a few inquiries. I will post Vol II index shortly. Here is the index for Vol I. "THE OLD STONE BANK' HISTORY OF RHODE ISLAND. It was published in 1929. On the front cover of the book it say "Published in Commemoration of the One Hundred and Tenth Anniversary of the Founding of the PROVIDENCE INSTITUTION FOR SAVINGS". There is an embossed image of the domed bank. The 2 banks mentioned in each book are the Olneyville Branch and Empire-Aborn Branch. I can transcribe to the list if this is alright with the list owners or scan in .jpg images and send individual info at your request. Each topic below is only 1-3 pages. Please contact me. In 1766 my ancestor (Charles Deake) sold his land in Hopkinton, RI to Abraham Utter. So you might start with part of the family in the Hopkinton area. Surnames: JENKINS, BROWNELL, HITT, FISHER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XcB.2ACE/327 Message Board Post: Am looking for Royal JENKINS, born late 1700s Rhode Island, possibly married to Desire, with daughter Phebe A. JENKINS and possibly Samuel JENKINS. What I have: Royal JENKINS, born 1775 to 1794. He is in Rhode Island in 1820 census in Exeter, WashingtonCounty, next door to Benjamin JENKINS, born before 1775. Royal's daughter, Phebe JENKINS, born Sept. 8, 1826 [Lonsdale Rhode Island by one record, Connecticut by another --neither a birth record]; died March 18, 1866 Taunton, Massachusetts. Phebe married Lorenzo D. BROWNELL born about 1821 in Massachusetts. This Royal is possibly the Royal who fathered Samuel JENKINS, born circa 1820, died Sept. 28, 1894 in Rhode Island. If this is the same Royal, then his wife [according to Samuel's death record] is Desire. Does someone connect?
Pat, I can give you a lead on the Holden part. And this ties in very well... Maybe. A Holden Remington (b. 1765, Warwick, s/o Ruel Remington and Roby Rice) married Dorcas Stedman who was a daughter of Thomas Stedman and Mary Perry. Mary's twin sister Susannah Perry married Thomas's brother Daniel Stedman who was the grandfather of Meribah Stedman who married William Jacquays. Almost every male named Holden that I have found in Washington County is somehow related to Holden Remington or his uncle Holden Rice. Maybe others with male Holdens would care to help me prove or disprove that. I believe that the name Holden is derived from the Holden surname and that somewhere there is a connection between the Rice family and the Holden family but I have not been able to prove anything. There is a lot of murkiness in this family ... Ruel's family is not well documented. I have identified 4 children but I am sure there were more. john. Thanx Donna. I knew you had a Stedman, we've talked before. I'm still trying to find a Sabrina in all of those names. I saw the Reynolds and figured maybe??????? Holden's middle initial is "R" so I thought perhaps he was named after her maiden name or a relative of hers. It's called grasping at straws................... I'm fairly certain now (without actual proof proof) that Holden was the son of Samuel Norris Jaquays who married Sabrina ?, -----------did I tell you of my good fortune in finding what I feel is a brother to Holden, thus more siblings? I was so elated. A maiden name for Sabrina would be another terrific find. Pat J.
Hi Pat, I know you were asking John but I can answer that. William Jacques, whom I believe to be a brother of my Thomas Taylor Jacquays, married Meribah Stedman. William was born ca. 1775 and Meribah was born 12 Jul 1789 to Daniel McCoon Stedman and Martha Braman. Donna in RI
Could you tell me if a Stedman female may have married a Jaquay any place along the line in your records? Pat Jaquay NY
I am looking for the parents of William Whipple born about 1812 who married Nancy Main Grey in North Stonington, CT. He and Nancy were the parents of Erastus Whipple who married Louisa Gould. I have sent this inquiry to the New London County list, but since the Whipples went back and forth over the state line, I am sending it here as well. Thanks
