    3. It's very confusing! Yes, they are all in Providence County. At that time(1870) Lonsdale was a very small village along the Blackstone River with a textile mill and bleachery as its main support. Lonsdale is still considered a village, and is located near the towns of Lincoln and Cumberland. I have puzzled over the same question while researching my gr-gr uncle, Lucius F. C. Garvin, who was the doctor in Lonsdale in the 1870s before he became a legislator and then the Governor of RI in the early 1900s. In the 1870 census, Lonsdale was listed with the Smithfield Districts. In 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930, Lonsdale is listed under Cumberland districts. Donna Finnerty Rhyne Raleigh, NC PS Which is the correct name--Johnson or Jackson? You used both in your message. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Deb Jankowski" <dajankowski@adelphia.net> To: <RIPROVID-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 29, 2004 8:10 PM Subject: [RIPROVID] Lonsdale, Smithfield > Can some kind soul help me? > > I am searching for a birth record for Andrew Jackson, supposedly born in Lonsdale, RI in 1854. > > He was the son of Joseph Jackson. > > I was able to find Andrew Johnson on the 1870 Census for "Smithfield Districts 2 and 3", Providence, RI. > > When I printed the page, the page is noted, Post Office, Lonsdale, RI. > > Is Lonsdale RI a part of Smithfield?
