Hi, I'm new to the list, but not new to research. I recently determined that my Gaddis family from England, who spent a few years in MA, moved to Johnston, RI between the 1850 & 1860 census's. The last place I find them is in the 1870 Providence census. I have written to the Archives for the parents death records, but they were not found there. Any help on the following family or suggestions about where to try next is greatly appreciated. Also, I would be happy to trade NH or MA Vital Record research for RI research.: James Gaddis, b abt 1810 Hayton by Brampton, Cumberland, England, son of James Gaddis & Mary Modlin. Immigrated with family to Newburyport, MA 1840-42. Md in England 1832 to: Jane Monks/Munks b. abt 1808. Known Children: 1) Mary J. Gaddis, b. 1833 England, md. John Walsh 1853 Portsmouth, NH (my ancestor - stayed in NH) 2) John Gaddis, b. 1835 England, living in Portsmouth, NH in 1850 3) Joseph Gaddis, b. 1837 England, 4) William E. Gaddis, b. 1840 England, md. Mary E. in Providence, RI bef 1870. Living in Providence in 1880. Had at least one son, Raymond b. 1876 5) Thomas James Gaddis, b.1842 Newburyport, MA. living in Johnston, RI in 1860 6) Isaac Gaddis, b. 1844 & d. 1845 Newburyport, MA 7) Isaac Henry Gaddis, b. 1846, Newburyport, MA. Living in Providence, RI in 1870 8) George W. Gaddis, b. 1850 Newburyport, MA or Portsmouth, NH. Living in Providence RI in 1870. Thank you, Mary Ellen Moulton Plaistow, NH
Jane "Gaddes" is on the RI cemetery page as born c1809 d.2 Jan 1878 buried in Cranston, RI (Pocasset Cemetery). A John Gaddis died in Newburyport 1852. I don't have further info on that. The state archives should have Jane's death record. I would try them again with this 1878 date.
