Frederick Butler Thurber b. 1883, son of William Herbert Thurber worked for the Tilden-Thurber Company in Providence. I have also seen a statement that a Frederick Butler Thurber was a world class yachtsman from Providence and sailed around the world. I have not been able to confirm that they are the same person. The web site for the Westerly Yacht Club, Westerly RI mentions a win in the Watch Hill Yacht Club Frederick B Thurber Race. The Watch Hill Yacht Club had a Thurber Race on its calendar in Sept 2001, but the link to the race information is obsolete. I have tried to get information through the club about Frederick B. Thurber, but have not been able to get any information from them. Anyone know if they were the same person, and if so what his interest in yachting was? Did he sail around the world? When? Thanks.
