Dear Linda, Thanks a lot for the information. I am much intrigued as to the genealogies of Stephen B. Cornell, Appraiser Inventory of Goods and stock at the Portsmouth Assylum, and Mr George Cornell, Keeper of the Asylum to whom Seth Anthony writes. You see, Thomas Chace's wife (my GGG Grandmother) was Lucretia Cornell, sister of Ezra Cornell, founder of Cornell University. I have often wondered how Thomas and Lucretia met one another and wonder what role the other Cornells of the Providence area may have played in their introduction. Lucretia Cornell (and Ezra Cornell) were from De Ruyter, New York. Could Lucretia have been visiting a relative at the Dexter Poorhouse or at Portsmouth when she met Thomas Chace, overseer of the poor? (speculative, of course). I noticed a Betsey Chase (with an "s") and a couple of Cornells, David and Mary B., in the Portsmouth Poorhouse (http://rewhc.org//townfarminsane.shtml). Thanks a million for the information. I will follow up on these leads and see where it brings me and, of course, will share the information with the Providence mailing list. Cheers, Jeffrey Chace
