The R I Historical Soc. on Hope St. has them back to the 1800's. I can't remember the exact date. Can anyone tell me if the City of Providence has city directories, and if so, how far back do they go? Thanks for your help! Ellie S.
Hello all, I am new to the list. I am trying to find my Great Great Grand Mother's family. This is what I know about her: Lydia Olney Phillips b. 1805 in RI. She married Isaac Billings Booth in either Union or Stafford CT in 1833. I did find a man that was born in 1833 named David Olney Phillips who was buried in the Clayville Cemetary in Foster, RI. His father was Nathaniel Phillips. Any help will be greatly apprecisted. Lee
My Elizabeth CARROLL, daughter of Sarah and John, was born in Ireland circa 1813 -1820, and married Bernard MCELROY in 1847 in Providence, RI. She died there in 1900. Does anyone have any CARROLLS who emigrated from Ireland to Rhode Island? Thank you. Fran Weeks
AOL has a way of retriving lost emails--perhaps your server does, also.
Looking for Peter MCELROY, his wife, Isabella, and their children: Bernard b. cir.1815, followed by Sarah, William, Patrick, Ellen, Elizabeth & Roger, all born in Clones, (probably in Lisgorran) Ireland. All but Peter (the father) emigrated and had settled in North Providence, RI by 1850. Peter had probably died in Ireland. In Providence, this family lived on Darling Street and then on Pettis ! ! ! ! Pettis Street and attended the Immaculate C onception Catholic Church. Many of them were buried in the nearby St. Patrick's Cemetery. Many more MCELROYS (probably cousins) lived in the immediate neighborhood. Among the local families that these McELROYS married into were the SWEENEYS, MCANERLYS, REILLYS, MCCANNS, CARROLLS and another MCELROY family of Providence. As far as I know, William did not marry. If you can identify with any of this, please get in touch. Much of this information has come to me through the generosity of Loree Muldowney of the William McElroy branch. Thanks very much. Fran Weeks
Greetings All: Last week I had major computer problem. When it was over, I found ALL my emails gone. As you can guess, this was a major disaster. All my carefully labeled and organized email folders, and the pictures and data they contained were gone. This was about a two year collection of information. I received great information and pictures from many fine people. I carefully placed these emails in the proper folders. I planned to go back to each folder and transfer the data to my family recordkeeping program. Unfortunately, that old demon "Procrastination" kept interfering. By the time I lost my emails, there was great amounts of data in the emails and not in the family records. I thought I was careful and backing up my data, but I cannot find where I saved the emails. I am asking your help to rebuild and regain some of the information. I would appreciate it very much if anyone who corresponded with me in the last couple of years could check their email lists. If you still have emails I sent to you or your responses to me, please send me copies. I will be very busy the next few months rebuilding the email folders and emails AND SAVING THE DATA. Last email. Should say Southern New England Irish. I forgot to put the word Irish in there Sorry about that. Bob Ryan

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Richard S. KINGMAN which was taken at the Horton Bros. Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's or early 1900's with Richard looking to be in his 30's at the time. Thanks to the help of a KINGMAN Family researcher I believe the man in the photograph to be Richard Stout Kingman b. 13 Feb 1861 in New York City, NY. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
Thank you I will pursue both the suggestions for the 1915 census. June DeLalio
Try the RI Historical Society, Hope St. In Providence or the City Directories. Does any have access to a finding aid for the 1915 census for the City of Provindence. I am trying to find the enumeration district that covers Arthur Avenue, Weeden St, Eutaw St.. I believe it was in Ward 9. I would appreciate knowing this and if not, a contact person or facility which would have such a finding aid. I've tried to hunt in the films and it would be endless to search with some clue. Thanks. June DeLalio
