It's ok Carole...Don and I are Taylor cousins from way back when in Scituate ..although we can't find our ancestors that are hiding in the swamp there...Also, we come from the RI group also and the "schoolin" thing is sort of a joke. Hope that clears up everything..you go ahead and ask a question..someone will surely answer it if they have the answer.. That's what we are here for...right Don????? If this is the Thomas Phillips and Lydia Whitfield of Exeter, Providence, RI their Lydia appears to have passed at 2 years old on June 15, 1807. I have often wondered if if her name was Lydia Olney and she married a Phillips before marrying my Isaac Billing Booth in Stafford, Tolland Co., Conn. on April 04, 1833. She would have been 28 at that time. This seems to be somewhat older then most of my female antecedents were when they married but she might have married later in life and I would have thought that she would have dropped her former husband's surname when she remarried. My ancestor is John Olney Hopkins..born 1812...Probably Foster, as parents born there...but can't find his birth or marriage, but his grave stone in Acotes in Chepachet has his daughers name on it... Matilda Lane Hopkins.... Providence death book 78, pg 1286 age 36 at time of death. Gravestone says: daughter of John O Hopkins & Angeline. But can't find any Angeline .... Any takers??? RI State Archives Archives Division Info (401) 222-2353 337 Westminster Street Providence, RI 02903 Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 The Archives has an index of naturalizations performed in RI State Courts. RI doesn't have a county system of government so the courts at the count seats are State Courts. Unfortunately, you could be naturalized in City/Town and Federal Courts. The Index at the State Archives contains images from the card file maintained by the State Courts system: name, date, file number, city of residence and sponsors. The Judicial Records Center, Hill Street, Pawtucket, RI _http://www.courts.state.ri.us/records/forms.htm_ (http://www.courts.state.ri.us/records/forms.htm) This location has the paper files of the naturalization records performed in RI State Courts. The Federal Records Depositary in Waltham, MA has the naturalization records for the North East. After the Civil War the Town of Smithfield, split up into the Towns of North Smithfield, Smithfield, Lincoln and Central Falls. Woonsocket was formed by splitting off pieces of North Smithfield and Cumberland. Pawtucket was formed by taking part of North Providence and adding Pawtucket, Massachusetts. If you are using the RI Vitals from Ancestry for your info, the coverage is spotty for the Blackstone Valley area. Paul McEnanly

Regarding Nathanael Greene b. 1742 (by the way, the AEL is the accepted spelling of the younger Nathanael). Nathanel's wife, Catharine Littlefield (Caty) married Phineas Miller in 1796. They settled on Cumberland Island - land granted to her 1st husband after the Rev. War. He used Live Oak timber from the Island to try to pay off the debts he incurred while supporting the Rev. War forces. Phineas Miller was not only her children's tutors, but co-founder of the cotton gin. Caty had financially backed the project with Eli Whitney before the boys had a falling out. She is buried there in a marked grave. While the Greene/Miller home burned down long ago, a new one was built in its place. This one was built by Thomas Carnegie. Some of the Island is still held by Carnegie's descendents. Both mansions were named Dungeness. Both husband's didn't live long enough to enjoy their new homes on the Island. More about Cumberland Island: http://www.camdencounty.org/history/cumberland_island.html I also have photos from the Greene/Miller Cemetery on the Island. Cumberland Island is part of Camden County, GA. I've been running the Camden/Charlton Counties web site for 10 years now. Greetings: Would like some kind person with access to the 1855 RI census please check for an Andrew Kennedy ( approximate age 16-18) possibly in Northern RI, especially the areas of Burrillville, Smithfield, Providence or North Providence RI. or Slatersville, Woonsocket, or Pawtucket. My greatest roadblock has been finding information on when and where my ancestor, Andrew Kennedy, arrived in the United States. I originally thought he arrived between Sep 1858 and Aug 1859. At this time he ( about age 20) would have arrived with wife Sarah and son (David, age one year or younger). Have not been able to find any of them arriving in this time period. He and family and possibly brothers seem to have gone back and forth across the pond. ( Married in County Down Ireland in June of 1856. First son born Sept 1858 in County Down. Second son born in Smithfield, Providence RI Aug 1859. Third son born in County Down in July 1861. There is even a possibility of a later trip after 1864.) I cannot find any records of these arrivals on passenger lists. (It is definitely the same Andrew for all these birth dates and events). Now I find another possible trip. He said (1900 census) that he arrived in 1854 (age about 16-18). If he did arrive in 1854, I would like to find out where he lived, and with whom, as shown by the 1855 census. If he did arrive back in 1854, then I need to check for naturalization papers earlier than I have been doing; and maybe in a different county or state. Thanks for any help. P.S. Is there any list of naturalization papers on file in Providence County? Mike Kennedy Dayton Ohio
