    3. P.S The best place for getting birth records after 1853 is from: Rhode Island State Archives 337 Westminster St Providence, RI 02903 Before 1853 you have to contact individual town. All Lincoln and Smithfield records are kept in Central Falls @ City Clerk's office Central Falls, RI 02863 Good Luck At 08:10 PM 12/29/2004, you wrote: >Can some kind soul help me? > >I am searching for a birth record for Andrew Jackson, supposedly born in >Lonsdale, RI in 1854. > >He was the son of Joseph Jackson. > >I was able to find Andrew Johnson on the 1870 Census for "Smithfield >Districts 2 and 3", Providence, RI. > >When I printed the page, the page is noted, Post Office, Lonsdale, RI. > >Is Lonsdale RI a part of Smithfield? 3. Hi Lonsdale is a Village in Lincoln, RI. Lincoln was part of Smithfield, RI until 1871. Smithfield, Lincoln and Cumberland are all towns in Providence County. Hope this helps! 3. It's very confusing! Yes, they are all in Providence County. At that time(1870) Lonsdale was a very small village along the Blackstone River with a textile mill and bleachery as its main support. Lonsdale is still considered a village, and is located near the towns of Lincoln and Cumberland. I have puzzled over the same question while researching my gr-gr uncle, Lucius F. C. Garvin, who was the doctor in Lonsdale in the 1870s before he became a legislator and then the Governor of RI in the early 1900s. In the 1870 census, Lonsdale was listed with the Smithfield Districts. In 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930, Lonsdale is listed under Cumberland districts. Donna Finnerty Rhyne Raleigh, NC PS Which is the correct name--Johnson or Jackson? You used both in your message. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Deb Jankowski" <dajankowski@adelphia.net> To: <RIPROVID-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 29, 2004 8:10 PM Subject: [RIPROVID] Lonsdale, Smithfield > Can some kind soul help me? > > I am searching for a birth record for Andrew Jackson, supposedly born in Lonsdale, RI in 1854. > > He was the son of Joseph Jackson. > > I was able to find Andrew Johnson on the 1870 Census for "Smithfield Districts 2 and 3", Providence, RI. > > When I printed the page, the page is noted, Post Office, Lonsdale, RI. > > Is Lonsdale RI a part of Smithfield? 3. Can some kind soul help me? I am searching for a birth record for Andrew Jackson, supposedly born in Lonsdale, RI in 1854. He was the son of Joseph Jackson. I was able to find Andrew Johnson on the 1870 Census for "Smithfield Districts 2 and 3", Providence, RI. When I printed the page, the page is noted, Post Office, Lonsdale, RI. Is Lonsdale RI a part of Smithfield? A part of Lincoln? A part of Cumberland? Are ALL a part of Providence COUNTY? I'm really confused. Anyone out there who can straighten me out? Thanks in advance.

    1. Re: [RIPROVID] BINGO!! Eliza Josephine Glispin's Birth Record and records of her parents and their families!
    2. Donna Rhyne
    3. Me again--look at this entry in the 1870 RI Census M593_1480 Providence Wd 8 page 72 stamped page 306: the place of birth for the mother fits--maybe she remarried: WAYLAND William(44)Ire painter, Mary A(41)Eng Keeping house; GLISPIN Isabella(19)MA works in Wollen Mill, Josephine(18)MA works in jewelry manuf., Agnes(16)MA works in cigar manuf., Mary A(13)MA at school, William(9)MA at school; WAYLAND George H or K(1)RI at home After finding this, I looked at the NEHGS Website in the MA Vital Records and found this information: GLISPIN Eliza Josephine Town of Leicester, Wocester Co, MA 1852 Vol 65 p172 Born Jul 25 1852 parents Michael (Laborer born Ireland) and Mary Ann Glispin **Also living in the area and having children at the same time were three other couples: John and Jane Glispin; James and Ann Glispin; Thomas and Anastasia Glispin. The families of John and James are together on the 1850 Census MA with a lady who appears to be their mother--Catherine Glispin age 60. I found Michael's family and James' transcribed as Glispie instead of Glispin in the 1860 CENSUS MA Worcester Co, Milford page 222: Michael Glispie 34 Ireland Male Boot Finisher Mary A 30 England Female Isabell M 10 Massachusetts Female Eliza J 8 Massachusetts Female Agnes S 6 Massachusetts Female Mary Ann 2 Massachusetts Female William 1 Massachusetts Male Nearby in in Mendon, Worcester Co, MA: James Glispie 40 Ireland Male Ann 43 England Female Charles 20 England Male Catherine 19 England Female Thomas 14 Massachusetts Male James 12 Massachusetts Male Mary A 2 Massachusetts Female Then on Genealogy.com I found a marriage record that is probably Eliza's parents: Michel Glispin Marriage Index: Massachusetts, 1633-1850 Married: Dec 04, 1849 in: Leicester, Worchester Co., MA Gender: M This record can be found at: Family History Library, Salt Lake City, UT, Film # 0858547. Spouse name: Hogan, Mary Ann There are still Glispins in Worcester Co as recent as a year 2000 online Directory! There is so much info right there waiting to be found on your families.
