Seeking this info for a friend. His late mother was: Edith CROACHER, b. 1898, Padanarum, MA. Her parents were: Delancey CROACHER & Carrie Lee HART. He was b. 1860 in Little Compton, RI. Carrie's parents were John HART & Caroline BUTTS. Delancey CROACHER's parents were: Rodolphus CROACHER, b. ~ 1840, prob. in Newport County, RI (Newport, Portsmouth, Tiverton??) and Phebe CHACE. Rodolphus CROACHER/CROUCHER's father was: John E. CROUCHER (sp?), b. ~ 1815, prob. in Newport County, RI. I believe John E. CROUCHER's father was Daniel B. CROUCHER, b. ~ 1800. Daniel was married in Newport in 1830. I believe Daniel B. had a brother, Thomas CROUCHER. Thomas may have m. Sarah A. SHEPARD in Newport ~ 1830. I found an old article in the New Bedford newspaper about an Dr. Anna CROACHER, who was b. ~ 1879. In the article, it mentions the ancestors were from Newport, fought in the Revolution, and during the whaling era, her ancestors were merchants. Is someone able to check the vitals from Newport (or perhaps towns closeby) to see if you can find any vitals from these ancestors, or can tell us which CROACHERs first arrive in Newport. I have seen the name as: CROACHER, CROUCHER, CROOCHER, CROWCHER, etc. Thank you very much. Betty, MA (my friend is Dick CROACHER)
