Kilbourn, Stanton, Viall, Vail, Gray I need info on KILBURN, John & STANTON, Catherine Isabella possibly married 10 July 1763. This is almost all pure guesswork based on long distance research. Catherine had a possible will in 1799.Newport Will Book #3B, p.353-354 & Book 4B, p.420 (year 1803). I have not seen the original, just a citation to it in Arnold, VRORI 1636-1850. John was born circa 1732.Beaman, RIVR Births 1590-1930 (1985), vol.11, 237. It gives age as 51 years at death 25 September 1783. Children surnamed KLBOURN: i.Margery Maude KILBORN was born circa 1763-1780.Pure guesswork from her parents marriage and her marriage. She first married George Job VAIL (VIALL) 15 (Feb) September 1800 in the Second Congregational Church in Newport, Newport Co., RI.Arnold, VRORI 1636-1850 (1896), vol.8, p.468 and 478. The marriage under George VIALL and Margery WILBOUR gave the marriage as 15 February 1800 on page 478.The marriage under Margery KILBUN and George VIALL gave the marriage as 15 September 1800 on page 468. So, which is the correct one? Margery possibly married circa 1810-1820 a (_____) GRAY (GREY). They were possibly in Chenango Co., NY in 1820. Children surnamed VAIL (VIALL): i.George Alfred VAIL was born circa 1796 in Newport, RI and died 13 December 1841 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA.The Newspaper New Orleans Commercial Bulletin 14 December 1841, p.2, c.6. He supposedly had an obituary in the New York Herald 28 December 1841. After a "protracted illness," he died 13 December 1841 and was a native of Newport, RI. He was buried 14 December 1841 from the corner of Perdido and Circus Streets. The obit had "Newport papers please copy." His obituary in the Commercial Bulletin refered to his brother-in-law, Andrew HERO. George was a tavern keeper who lived at, or had a business at, #11 Hospital Street, New Orleans, LA.Mayor's Office, New Orleans, Orleans Par., LA, Tavern Keeper's bond #495, 1 January 1830, for $1000.00. From Municipal Papers, Kuntz Collection, at Manuscript Collection, Tulane University Library. Surety was Tomothy Donnellan of #149 Old Levee Street. George VAIL and a Catharin VAIL witnessed the marriage of William YALE [GATE ??] and Sophia Marsh [Mears ?] MYERS [?] on 5 March 1836 at the First Congregational Church of New Orleans, Orleans Par., LA.Marriage record of GATES (YALE ?) to Spphia MYERS [?], Marriage Records, 5 March 1836, First Congregational Church of New Orleans, Orleans Par., LA., Microfilm #LN60 at the New Orleans, LA Main Public Library, Louisiana Division. The signatures of the bride and groom are difficult to make out. I do not know who this Catharin VAIL was. Could she be George's wife, and if so, did they have children? On 27 April 1836, George leased from Louis F. FOUCHER a house in the Suberb Marigny, on Levee Street between Spain & Mandeville, second house from corner of Spain St.T. Seghers, N. P., vol.15, act#347, Notarial Archives, New Orleans, Orleans Par., LA. Children surnamed GRAY (GREY). ii.Caroline Matilda VAIL GREY was born circa 3 January 1822 in New York, NY or in Newport, RI. The 1880 census said she was born in New York, father from MD (Maryland), and mother from Rhode Island.U.S. Census 1880 Orleans Par., LA ED #68, p.8. She married Andrew HERO 9 January 1838 at the First Congregational Church in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA.First Congregational Church of New Orleans, [Orleans Parish], LA, Marriage Records 1836-1847, vol.1,p.146. Witnesses were J. H. GARNSEY, John WALKER, Jacob O'WALL [WALL]. Volume and page numbers from Collin B. Hamer, "Index to the Marriage Records of the First Congregational Church of New Orleans, 1836-1847," in New Orleans Genesis, 20 (March 1981) 154. Caroline died 23 November 1880, age 58 years, funeral from residence at #320 Annunciation Street on 24 November 1880.Newspaper Daily Picayune obituary 24 November 1880 p4c4. The listing of deaths recorded at the Board of Health on 24 November 1880 said she was a native of New York in the Newspaper Daily Picayune 24 November 1880 afternoon edition p1c5. Orleans Par., LA Vital Records, Death vol.77, p.860. See the obituary in the newspaper L'Abeille de la Nouvelle-Orleans, 25 November 1880, p4c1, wherein it stated "Mme Veuve Caroline M. Hero, 58 ans, No 320 rue Annunciation, native de New York." Also obit in newspaper Daily City Item, 25 November 1880, p4c5, wherein it stated "Mrs. Caroline M. Hero, 58 years, New York, 320 Annunciation Street."
