I am looking for information about the family of William Shannon SHERMAN b. 1862 Newport. He was married in 1890. Would like to know name of lady, if they had any children and when William died. I do know that he was member of Newport Historical Society in 1912. He was the son of Thomas West SHERMAN and Mary SHANNON. Thanks for any help you can give. Barbara

Barbara, The list on http://www.rootsweb.com/~rinewpor/article3.html#BULLETIN shows William S. Sherman and Dr. William S. Sherman. The Dr. William A. Sherman is my line and he was a medical doctor. Dr. William S. Sherman was a also doctor (from my mother who remembers the confusion). In the 1920 (for the year ending July 1921) Newport directory the only William S. Sherman it lists: Sherman, William S (Elizabeth) physician 5 Kay and 133 Spring house 5. The 1928 book (for the year ending 1928) has the same information. In the 1940 book there is a listing: Sherman, Wm S Mrs h 5 Kay [phone symbol] 3477-M In the 1948 book there is no William S. Sherman. Oops - almost missed an important line. I forgot that women were often listed twice.
