I have just joined this list having concentrated my previous research in England using the Roots Web YORKSGEN List with fabulous results. I'm hoping my research on this side of the pond will be easier! I am a former Rhode Islander now living in California, but I do have family (in-laws) still living in Newport. My husband and I are planning a trip there in September and I hope to collect a few certificates while I am there. I have a few questions on conducting this initial search as most of my English research has been conducted by other list members on my behalf or via mail or Internet requests so this is a new venture for me. Here are my questions: 1.  Is the cost the same whether you order BMD certificates by mail or in person? 2.  What other resources do you find valuable on line? In person? 3.  When researching in person do you do it yourself or just present the information and return later for the copies? 4.  How long does it take to find the information, minutes, hours? I appreciate any advice you may have. I will be in Newport from 9/13/03 until 9/19/03 staying  at the Newport Onshore (Perry Mill) at 405 Thames St. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
