Searching for any information on Daniel Gifford married Elizabeth [?] They are the parents of William Gifford [born abt 1799 Troy Mass.] later Fall River Mass., who married Sarah P. Cartwright November 25, 1819 Dighton Mass. On a map of Fall River Mass., in 1812 there is a Daniel Gifford listed as living in the area which now covers the area of where Eastern Ave. connects with the Brayton Ave Extension in Fall River Mass., near the South Watuppa Pond. I have recently been made aware that at this time this area was actually Tiverton R.I. I am searching for Elizabeth's last name, and also Daniel's parents. There is a chance that Daniel's parents were William Gifford and Priscilla Lawton who married 1767 at Freetown Mass. This William is said to have died in Tiverton, R.I. If any one has any information at all on any Daniel Giffords or William Giffords or anyone having a Daniel Gifford and Elizabeth for parents, I would appreciate hearing from you ! Have a good day! Marge

Looking for a WILSON (Peter or Alexander) family of Newport. In particular, Agnes WILSON (from an obituary in St. Louis about 1910) who passed away about 1910. She was a widow, 75 years of age (born in Renfrewshire,Scotland) and lived with her son in Newport. My records show two sons: Peter (b.c. 1873) and Alexander (b.c. 1875). Her deceased husband was Thomas. On an obituary there is a reference to a Mrs. A.E. Wiedmer, a niece. The obituary also indicated that she had lived "for several years in Newport". For both Agnes and her husband, this was their second marriage. Agnes was first married, then widowed, to Alexander SMITH in Scotland. By her first marriage, she had sons James and Alexander SMITH. The reference in the obituary could be for one of them or Peter and Alexander Wilson of her second marriage. Agnes was my gg grandmother.

My wife and I will be touring through New England come September. Since I have a great grandmother who was buried in Newport cemetery (about 1910), we would like to find her 'site'. Is there a listing of Newport cemeteries? How would I establish her gravesite? (the on-line website doesn't seem to list it, although an obituary claims she was interred in Newport). Sorry folks. I forgot something. He was not with the Jameson family in Boston when the 1900 census was done. Barbara Jameson
I have written about "cousin Charlie Sheridan" before, but getting info out of relatives sometimes seems like getting water out of a dry sponge! Having learned a couple of new things about him, I am trying again. "Cousin Charlie" probably was born about 1897-1898. He hung around the Thomas Jameson home in Boston a lot. In fact he lived with the family for several years. I have one picture of him taken in about 1909 and he looks just like the rest of the Jameson boys. Today I learned that he may have been born in RI to a sister of Honora (Nora, Elnora or Ellen) O'Brien Jameson. He may have been illegitimate or his father may have died young. Nora had a sister named Margaret who worked in the home of a wealthy family in Newport, RI. She was in charge of the kitchen and never married. We know Nora and Margaret had a brother named Daniel O'Brien who lived in Boston and died at an early age. Their parents were Daniel O'Brien (6 Jan 1839 in County Cork, Ireland to 21 Nov 1917 in Boston MA) and Mary Ellen Barnet. We have no information on her dates and it is believed she died before the family came to the US from 1883 to 1885. We have always believed that there were other siblings but don't know their names. Thomas and Nora used pretty common naming patterns for their children who were: Mary Jean, Frances Helena, Robert Henry, Mabelle, Daniel Joseph, James John, Thomas T, Mathew and Margaret. We know all the names of Thomas' siblings, so that leaves Frances, Helena, Mabelle, Henry, Joseph and Mathew as unknown relatives of Nora. Perhaps the sister was Frances, Helena or Mabelle O'Brien. Cousins visited Charlie's mother in a nursing home in Newport "When Charlie was in the Navy". WWI?? I think Charlie would have been too old for WWII. Help! Thanks. Seeking information on Thomas Pierce who married Almy Chase in Trinity Church at Newport in Nov. 1748. They had seven children: Persis, John, James, Thomas, Josiah, Elsie and Amy. They moved to Nova Scotia in 1762. I have been unable to find any information on either Thomas or Almy or any birth records for their children. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Richard Pierce
Hi there, I am new to this list and would like to post my search for Caleb Armitage who married Mary Brazzee(?) June 4, 1738 in Newport, Newport, Rhode Island at the Trinity Church. Caleb Armitage was born in Yorkshire and sailed to New York in 1719. I have nothing else on this couple. Would anyone know where I may search for census records or the like as I am in Australia and have run out of ideas. Desperate to find some information. Many thanks, Robyn Clarke (Armitage)
The Card line I am researching was from Newport, Jamestown, and Block Island, then some moved to Washington County, R.I. Prominent families of Block Island included the surnames Niles, Sands, and Card. I have an individual named Sands Niles Card, son of Jonathan Card and Sarah Niles. Based on the name simularity there is most likely a connection. Any suggestions where I may access additional info. Joyce
In his will Samuel Rogers referred to his Wife Alice. My question is was she the mother of his children or was he married previously. His daughter was Mercy Rogers and she married Benjamin Greene. Who was the mother of Mercy Rogers Greene and who were Samuel Rogers other children? I know from the will that he had a son Thomas and a son Clark, but I believe that there were other children. Does anyone have any knowledge on this Family. Patricia McMahon Regan
A brief introduction - I am researching the family of my maternal grandmother, Abby Marble Hammond, of Stockton, California, whose family came from Newport, RI. Her great grandfather, Joshua Hammond (b. June 14, 1758 in Rochester, MA; d. March 17, 1804 in Newport, RI) was married to Olive Adams. My best information gives them eight children including Moses Hammond (b. April 5, 1800 in Newport, RI, d. January 2, 1879 in Stockton, CA) He married Abby Brown Marble, also of Newport. If anyone has any information about this family line, or can recommend any contacts I might make to expand my knowledge of them, I would be most grateful for it. Any clues to help with the following would be appreciated: I am looking for the spouse/family/ancestors of Elizabeth HODGES, b. 1 Jan 1736, d. 13 Sep 1824. I do not know whether HODGES is a maiden name or a married name, but according to Bible records she was the mother of Jedediah TALLMAN, b. 25 Mar 1763 probably Tiverton, RI, d. 23 Sep 1839. Elizabeth may have been the 2nd wife of: Stephen TALLMAN, b. c. 1730 RI, m1. 4 Aug 1754 Tiverton, RI Mary COOK, d/o Joseph COOK and Rebecca MANCHESTER, m2. before 1780 Elizabeth (?). [The first wife, Mary COOK, had died by the time her father's will was prepared in 1780.] I have little information on where Jedediah TALLMAN was born/lived/died other than two children of his eight children with Margaret WOOLLEY were born in Duanesburg, NY. One daughter, Sarah TALLMAN , married Ichabod WHITE III and lived in Dutchess Co, NY for several years before settling near Schenectady, NY (Duanesburg & Quaker Street). Anyone out there researching Roach and variations in Newport RI. I would love to compare notes. Thanks in advance. Pat
I am researching the family of John Roach and Margaret Doody both boen in Ireland. John in 1847 and Margaret ca 1854. In the In the 1888 city directory there is a Patrick Doody living at the same residence. He remains in the directory until 1901 and then disappears. I can find no death record for him and he is not in the 1900 census. I am assuming that he is Mgt's brother but would like to verify that. Does this Patrick sound familiar to anyone? Can anyone suggest another place to look for info on him? Thanks in advance for any help. Pat
Hi All! I'm new to your list and desperate for help. A Michigan census states that Thomas' (the son of Thomas and Zilpha) father was from RI, which brings me to you. We have been researching the following family for about 30 years. THOMAS BATES was born Bet. 1774 - 1784, and died Bet. 1809 - 1810 in VT. He married ZILPHA STAPLES September 13, 1799 in Shaftsbury, VT, daughter of JACOB STAPLES and THANKFUL GOODWIN. She was born April 10, 1778 in Brooklyn, Windham Co., CT. Children of THOMAS BATES and ZILPHA STAPLES are: JACOB BATES, b. 1800; m. NANCY. FRANCIS BATES, b. 1801, Bennington Co. VT; d. March 14, 1883, Pinckney, Livingston, MI. DANIEL STAPLES BATES, b. June 30, 1804, Bennington, VT; d. April 1, 1896, Elyria, Lorain Co., OH. SARAH BATES, b. 1805. THOMAS J. BATES, b. 1806, Bennington Co. VT; d. January 14, 1890, Mason, Ingham, MI. WILLIAM BATES, b. 1809, Bennington Co. VT; d. 1846, Clarendon, Orleans, NY6; m. MELISSA PLATT Very little of this has been documented since the birth and death records for this family do not seem to exist in the state of Vermont during this time period. What I am hoping to do is find Thomas' family from this angle since doing it the other way does not seem to be possible. If anyone can be of any help in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Terri
