There is mention of quite a few of the well known lines in Rhode Island Richmond Rhode Island http://www.rootsweb.com/~rikent/richmond/ The pages are images and will take a long time to load. 1. [RINEWPOR] MORE CONNOLLY COAL MINERS
2. Seeking any information on the family of Timothy Connolly and Margaret Sullivan. They arrived in Portsmouth, RI from the Beara Peninsula in Cork, Ireland following the mining strike of 1864. Their fifth child Patrick was born in Portsmouth, RI in 1865. Timothy, Margaret and five of their children appear in the 1870 census for Portsmouth. The family eventually settled in Fall River, but the oldest son Timothy J. Connolly stayed to work in the mines. He married Elizabeth Cocoran, who was born in Portsmouth, RI, and he died in Fall River in 1940. Is anyone researching this family? Paula

1. Re: [RINEWPOR] RIDER and Tiverton Questions
2. Hi, Lisa..... Welcome to the list! I'm afraid I've not much news for you, but there is mention of a Hill family (Jonathan) in Austin's "Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island." Do you know if this is the family you seek? If so, I would be glad to post the information for you. As to your other questions, I, too, would be interested in the response. I was thinking of spending some time in Rhode Island this spring, and the info you are asking for would be a great help. Thanks for thinking to ask it on the list! Sincerely, Leslie Lanigan Great River, NY

1. [RINEWPOR] RIDER and Tiverton Questions
2. Hello. I just joined the list the other day. Using original records, I've worked my way from the Midwest to Canada and then to New York. My ancestors' trail now leads me to Tiverton/Newport Rhode Island and Freetown Bristol Co. Massachusetts. I have a few questions. First, Is anyone researching any RIDER families that were of Newport or Tiverton in the 1740s or prior? How about any HILL or TUCKER families? Second, I haven't seen too many published indexes, abstracts etc for Newport (Tiverton) nor much in way of films of original records by the LDS. Where would the early (1740s or prior) probate/deeds be held, the courthouse/land records office or archive or other? Third, For onsite research in this area what archives, societies, libraries, other government offices, etc. would be the "hot spots" to hit for this early time period (1740s or prior)? Thanks for your help and suggestions. Lisa
