    3. Hello List! Being new to this list I ask that you please bear with me. I thought I would put this quandry out to the "experts"!!!! I am descended from Francis1West and Susannah Soule, through their son Francis2 West. Recently I have come across a discrepancy in some information published by the Mayflower Society over time and while sending out emails far and wide to various branches of the Mayflower Society, it appears that prior information published many years ago is now deemed in error. Info published in 1999 (Wakefields Soule Lineage) I am TOLD is now considered correct. For over 20 years I have shown that Francis2West married to Sarah (Meakins) Millard, daughter of Thomas Meakins. I am now told that this was an error (naturally, after I have a good start on the ancestry lineage for Thomas!!! This would also void out information done in other publications like Savage's) and that Francis actually married a Sarah HILLIARD, who is reportedly a daughter of the Widow Mary Mott (widow of Gershom Mott) from a previous marriage. (No mention of a husband/father's given name is mentioned. Mary Mott's will was proved in 1733 and mentions grandsons Francis and John West). This "new info" was published in 1995 in a Mayflower Society publication and was the first to show the change in surname to the best of my knowledge. No mention of references or sources was included for the new info. Now...today I have been informed that this new information will be published in the summer issue of another Mayflower Society publication due to come out at the end of August and will include the first 2 generation of Hilliard. (Does one have to be a member to obtain this copy?) To quote a response from what I believe* came from one branch of the Mayflower Society : " Francis West married Sarah Hillard in East Greenwich, RI on 12 May 1699. The record is from that town and has been published. " I guess what I'd like to know is does anyone have a clue as to what publication might have included such information? I had sent to them a copy of their publication done in 1995 showing this name change, (which started this whole question as to the wife's name) SO IT IS DOUBTFUL THAT THIS 1995 PUBLICATION IS WHAT THEY ARE REFERRING TO AS THE INFORMATON HAVING BEEN PUBLISHED. Has the county of Kent or township of East Greenwich done some sort of publication somewhere in time? Or can anyone tell me if it is possible to obtain a copy of this marriage record and how to go about it? I am not local to Rhode Island, unable to visit there as well, so any communications to accomplish the same will have to be done via email or US Postal Service. Thanks for any help, guidance and/or direction. I apologize for the length of this post as well. Sue * I do intend to write and see if the respondent could be a bit more precise but am finding every email sent to one person as recommended, is handed off to someone else to respond!
