Wish to locate descendants of the children of Rev. Timothy GREEne who served in the Maple Root Baptist Church in 1770s. His children were : Levi, Peleg, Silence , Huldah, Mary, Rowland, Elizabeth and Enfield. They were born in Coventry, RI. MFinn90885@aol.com
Dear Listers, My ggrandfather Harry Wolfenden married Lily Lora May Buchannan. I don't know when or where they married, but they lived and raised their family in Kent County, RI. They had ten children , all born in Coventry, Artic, and West Warwick. Lily died April 11, 1924 in Coventry. My grandmother had told me that Lily's parents were Leonard Buchannan and Mary Hoar. However, on the only census I could find (1900 Census, Kent Co, vol 2, ed203, SH 8, line 29) that was of any use I find a Leonard J. Buchanan living in Warwick with his wife lily, and two daughters, Hattie Bolsindale and Lily Buchanan. Lily's birth of Oct 1886 matches my great grandmothers. I found an obit of a Mary Buchanan, which stated that Mary's Parents were Jerry Hoar and Susan Murphy. Would love to talk to anyone on the list that can shed some insight into this. Thank You, Ernie West ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Join Juno today! Hello- My surname search centers on Theophilus WHALEY and Tamson PURCHASE. Theophilus Whaley is believed by many researchers to be an assumed name for a man who moved to the Boston Neck area in 1680 from Virginia and lived in RI until his death in 1720. I am also interested in the WILLET family and the SEWELL family who owned property in Boston Neck area around 1700. Robert Whaley rkwhaley@rochester.rr.com
John Tomkins married Abigail Fenner on 22 Nov 1801. Abigail was the daughter of Joseph Fenner and Ruth Potter and the granddaughter of Jeremiah Fenner and Anne Warner of Coventry. Ruth Potter was the daughter of Stephen Potter and Mary Freeborn also of Coventry. John Tomkins and Abigail lived in Scituate and in 1820 migrated to Pennsylvania where they purchased 1/2 the land of Westcott Stone also from Coventry. Does anyone have the name of John Tomkins parents? Priscilla Perry
Richelle, Do you have the parentage if the Jesse Sweet you mentioned, or his approximate DOB I have a Jesse Sweet born 1763 to Francis Sweet and Sarah Herrington, Arlan Maguire ----- Original Message ----- From: <Re5212@aol.com> To: <RIKENT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2001 7:05 PM Subject: WEEDEN and WILCOX and SWEET > I have Orrie SWEET married to Daniel WILCOX approx. 1809 and Mahala SWEET > married to "Mr." Wilcox approx. 1806. Hello: My surnames are GREENE, Rev. Timothy; BURLINGAME, Silence; MARTIN, Samuel; GREENE, Huldah. Mary Lou Finn MFinn90885@aol.com
Alice, Thanks for your suggestion about Weeden as a given name for my WILCOX ancestor. Someone on the main RIGENWEB list also suggested that and I have been unable to find a connection so far, but I have found 2 SWEET marriages to WILCOX men that I'm trying to follow. I have Orrie SWEET married to Daniel WILCOX approx. 1809 and Mahala SWEET married to "Mr." Wilcox approx. 1806. Both of these SWEET women were sisters and daughters of Jesse SWEET and Huldah WHITFORD and the marriages took place in E. Greenwich RI. Weeden WILCOX migrated from RI to NY to Lorain County, OH, first appearing there on the 1830 Census. According to Lorain County cemetery records for his daughter, Hulda Ann was b in 1811 and his wife was named Mahala, so I was excited when I found these Sweet/Wilcox marriages. So far however, I haven't been able to identify the "Mr. Wilcox" and there are many Daniel Wilcox. I am very encouraged by your post and others on the list today. I think I'm beginning to look in the correct place. Thanks again, Richelle
Looking for any info on Elkanah Johnson born 1673 and died 1748 buried in Coventry RI Historical Cem. #7 - married to Mary Bartholomew born abt 1675. Art Reierson
Hello Charlotte- Thanks so much for your reply. I have seen that Will, but the Comstock Book author feels that Levi is probably Lydia's son by Aaron's father. The "probably" is a problem for me, as I am working on an application to the DAR based on William, Lydia's father's, service. Since the connection is not certain, & I'm having difficulty proving Levi's parentage, I have found several other patriots in my lineage to work on for my application, but I don't like to give up on William- he was the first that I found! Am planning a trip to the Archives of RI and Historical Society in Providence soon, so maybe I'll turn up something there. Thanks again for the input! Kay: Thanks for your message back!! It seems that all of us "New Englanders" from the 1600, 1700....etc. time frame, can understand "collateral" family relationships!! Just as a sidelight....I just had my DNA traced back on the British/European continent......that was great fun!! I followed all of my women back (mother, grandmother, etc. etc. to the last female lineage I could find, which took me to London area)....and lo and behold, it ended up that I am related, by my DNA, to the indigenous Saami peoples (they are still there!!) in the area of Norway!!! Back 17,000 years!! What a great find that was! Thanks again for your input. More later, as I think of more I can share with you all. Barbara By. Shasta Co., CA
Dear Barb, What a lovely thing to say about being family. I appreciate your interesting observation and yes, the same thing had occurred to me. We are all related it seems. Kay Larsen

Ebenezer GREENE m. Betsey BRIGGS in Coventry, R.I. Date uncertain. I have seen 1762 and 1791 for marriage dates. I do believe that these two are my direct descendants though. LaMance? (sp) gives two offspring as Ebenezer and Wealthian but sys that there were 2 or 3 other children in the family. I believe that Panima GREENE b. 1786 m. Peleg R. WOOD 12/4/1808 d. 1859 may be one of these. A real brick wall for both families WOOD and GREENE

Another interesting observation is we have had more activity on this list in the last two days since its inception about two years ago, thanks to all of you it's working, keep up the good work. Most of my connections in Kent County are very slim, I do have quite a few more in Washington County RI. I volunteered for the Kent County Coordinator position because this is where I traced my Maguire roots to and thought it might help me trace them further, after four years I still have not found any Maguire kin and very little information to help me trace them any further back, however I am not complaining, I love this job and have met hundreds of and work with dozens of wonderful people. If I can be of any help to any of you feel free to contact me through this list or privately at amag0254@flash.net Good luck and good hunting, *********** Arlan Maguire...
