Margaret: All information points to John RIGGS being son of Samuel RIGGS [1760-1846]. This is the same John RIGGS who died in 1849 and his will is on Hawkins Co, TN page. According to the late Leo RIGGS and a few other RIGGS researchers; Samuel RIGGS and first wife Mary "Polly" MORRIS had the following children: 1. Lewis RIGGS; born 20 Jun 1792 2. Jesse RIGGS was born 1795 3. Russell J. RIGGS was born about 1798 4. John RIGGS was born 1802 5. Pleasant Maynard RIGGS was born about 1807 6. Ellis M. RIGGS was born ca 1813/14 According to research papers of the late Leo RIGGS, he also thought Nancy RIGGS who married Shadrick MORRIS, Jr in 1804 was dau of Samuel but she was the daughter of Reuben RIGGS and Mary CRAWFORD. Leo also thought Casandra RIGGS who married Richard GRAVES in 1805 was dau of Samuel RIGGS but she was dau of John RIGGS from Maryland who died in Jefferson Co, TN in 1833/34. Leo also listed a Matilda RIGGS [A tentative identification only....his words] born in NC in 1790 as dau of Samuel. She died in Jefferson Co, TN after 1850......she was shown in 1850 Census of Jefferson County, TN as a pauper and a resident of the poorhouse.
