Thanks, Linda. Believe me, if I had more information on my Mahala I would have given it. As I said, it is a very sturdy brick wall. I can take her husband's line, Elkanah Lewis, back two more generations. But not Mahala. I know only that she married in Surry County and most likely was born in the vicinity. I know also that what was then Surry Co. covered a wider area, as is true of many of the NC counties. I do have names of her descendants, but if she isn't mentioned in this book, I doubt if it would help. I do not have names of her parents or siblings. Mahala is listed in Ancestry.com as the wife of Elkanah Lewis III, but there is no more info about her, or wasn't the last time I checked. The duplication of given names was why I brought her up. But I knew it was a long shot! Since I am moving in a few weeks, my genealogy stuff, what there is of it, is packed and all this has to go on hold. Maybe I'll get back to it by fall. On the other hand who knows when I'll get to it. Jones and Annette H. Jones, Published in 1981, they mention at least three seperate Riggs lines, One from what is now Surray Co. others from Albermarle and the third in Virginia since 1600. That date leaves out the migration of the Riggs line from N.J. In the book I have seen evidence of close intermarriage between two of the lines. I have tried to put these in a timeline format and found it next to impossible. I guess what I am trying to say is you need to put more information than just names in your query. I did not find any Mahala Riggs in this book. Altho I have seen it mention, but cannot remember where. That is the one name that isn't in my line. The Riggs from N.J. to Surray County, N.C. have a habit of naming there children the same names. I have seen a Jesse and a Samuel, b. 4-4-1760 and another Samuel b. 4-11-1760. The last one is my ggggrandfather, lived in what is now Hamblen Co. TN. At the time it was Hawkins C! > o. He > also lived in Jefferson Co. TN. where his father Edward lived until he died in 1820. These last statements are all proven by deeds and signitures on Revolutionary War pay vouchers, Samuel was too young to be paid directly, and Guardianship papers. > > Anne Haines <annerhai@adelphia.net> wrote: > Your Thomas Riggs, born in Dobson, Surry Co NC, is of interest to me > although he can't be in my direct line.
