Hello, I'm looking for for my GGFather, Thomas Riggs, born about 1860 in IL went to Van Buren Co AR and on 5-13-1882 married Martha Conway. The marriage record says he was 22 and she was 17. On the 1900 AR South Sugarloaf census Martha is raising Bertie b. Jan 1885, Commie b. Feb 1889, Lonnie b. Aug 1890, Georgia (Myrtle Etta) b. Jan 1894, John T. b Mar 1895, Bonville b. April 1897. The census says she was born in 1864 in AR. My mother says that Thomas Riggs was a "wheeler-dealer" and was always buying and selling land and other things. He was also a "medicine man". He cured people with herbs. After he left Martha, when my GM was about 3, he is supposed to have gone to OK (Durant??) and bought a candy store and started a new family. Commie married 1st Phoebe Parker in Red River Co Tx, 2nd Bertha-Cherokee (1930 OK Bryan Co Census), Myrtle Etta married Phoebe's brother, Robert Parker in Lamar Co Tx and Bertie married their brother George Parker in Red River Co Tx. Oh yes, two things. It appears that Lonnie and Phoebe got together according to my Mother and an obit of one of Phoebe's kids that says that Lonnie is his father and Phoebe is his mother. I haven't found a divorce decree or a marriage license yet, but I'm still looking. The other thing is that on Lonnie's delayed BC (RRCo), he said his father's name was John Thomas and on Myrtle Etta's SS application, she said it was Thomas William. Does anyone know anything about this family that is so full of riddles? Believe it or not, there's even more. The more I find, the less I know. I would love to find some cousins to help me find the answers. Thank you, Carol Scarborough
