    1. Re: [RIGGS-L] Re: John Augustus Riggs
    2. Dear Marvalene and others, This is my brick wall too! I too am trying to prove the parentage of my Jane Anne Riggs, d/o James and Violena Dye Riggs sister to John Augustus Riggs. I too have the "story" with no proof. I originally found the story on the "Dye Society" list serve posted under the Thomas Dye family who settled in Meigs Co in the early 1800's. The story was that they went west to IA ca 1837. I then called the Iowa archives and went through several people trying to find out what records might have been available from that time frame, not many. After more research I'm now assuming that the James Riggs in the 1840 Meigs Co census is this James Riggs and Violena Dye. The ages of the children match well, and since they left after 1840 there is a better chance of locating them in Iowa. I have just in the last week hired a genealogist to try to find any records in Iowa that may be of some help. I also hired a genealogist in Meigs Co who checked for guardianship papers and found none. FYI, this story is also listed in a small book written in 1948 by M.E. Welch for the Meigs Co DAR. She chronicled several Meigs families histories in this book, but it is crudely done and not usuable for any primary sourcing. There is no source for this story in this book. The book is only found in the State Library of Ohio in Columbus. If anyone has any sourcing for this story I'd be elated too! Bridget
