    1. [RIGGS-L] Meigs Co Ohio book, Riggs/Dye
    2. Dear list: I posted the following message on the DYE list and the Meigs Co Ohio list. I thought I would also post it here as the story has the Riggs family in it. I received some good responses and look forward to more discussion about this story. Bridget _________________________ Dear list: I recently received copies of more than 50 pages of a "book" written in 1948 by Mrs. M.E. Welch of Meigs County Ohio. The book is titled "Scipio Township, Meigs County Ohio: Some Historical facts/complied by Mrs. M.E. Welch fot he Return Jonathon Meigs Chapter, NSDAR" The only place this book seems to be located is at the State Library of Ohio in Columbus. It may be the only copy. The book is made up of two parts, the beginning is a history of Ohio/Meigs CO.and I don't have those pages. The second part is made up of brief family histories. There are several references to the Dye family. One story I'm trying to source is the story of Riggs-Dye family that went to Iowa and the parents, Wm James Riggs and Violena Dye who died without a sourcing of date, place or cause of death. The story is referenced twice in the book, once in the Riggs section and again under Thomas Dye. One interesting part in the Thomas Dye section is as follows: page 99 James and his wife both died in Iowa, left a large family of small children, and Thomas Dye hired Geo. Downing to go to Iowa and bring them home to him. Andrew Dye gives a very interesting account of this trip. Andrew Dye is referenced again on the next page under Catherine Dye and Jacob Uhl. I think I need to reference the entire paragraph. I have typed it exactly as it appears. page 100 "Cather and Jacob Uhl M. Dec. 30, 1819." (from the marriage records of wood Co VA. ( Now West VA.) This was a daughter of Thomas Dye Sr. and Jane Mankin his wife. From the marriage date she was probably the oldest child. Andrew Dye knows of her, though this is the only record we have and he says they went to California. Does anyone have information on this Andrew Dye? He must have been living during 1940-48 while this book was being written. I'm wondereing if his account of the Riggs/Dye trip to Iowa is written down in someone's notes somewhere. I'm hoping to find a place of death in Iowa for the Riggs family and possibly a date as well. I'm hoping there are some notes left by Andrew. Does someone know of his birth-death dates and how he fits into the Meigs Co Dye families? Anyone on the list a descendant of this Andrew? Thanks loads, Bridget Couch
