    3. Hi Annella, You'll find accounts of this skirmish also at the following two web-sites: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilclint2/miscclint/roll003.htm Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Illinois, Volume XI Illinois Militia, Rangers & Riflemen 1810-1813 Pg. 26 - 42 http://www.pikecoilgenweb.org/books/1880History/071.html http://www.pikecoilgenweb.org/books/1880History/072.html Pike County IL Pages from 1880 Pike County History by Chas. C. Chapman & Co. There's also a reference to a 2nd Lieutenant Jonathan Riggs of the Illinois Rangers in 1815 at the following web-site: http://usregular0.tripod.com/saukfox/ THE SAUK AND FOX INDIANS IN THE WAR OF 1812 By Michael Dickey, Site Administrator Arrow Rock State Historic Site Missouri Department of Natural Resources <quote> The opening months of 1815 offered no respite from Sauk and Fox raids. On the morning of March 7, Captain James Callaway and fourteen Rangers set out from Fort Clemson in pursuit of Sauk and Fox who had stolen horses from Loutre Island on the Missouri. That afternoon they found the horses being tended by a few Sauk women who fled at the Rangers approach. Despite the fears of 2nd Lieutenant Jonathan Riggs that they were riding into a trap, Callaway proceeded back to Fort Clemson the same way they had come. As they were fording the Prairie Fork a large party of Sauk fired a volley at them. In the ensuing fight Callaway and four other Rangers were killed. The news shocked the frontier as Callaway was a grandson of Daniel Boone. <unquote> ©¿© Geoff RIGGS - Chepstow, South Wales, UK ~~ Riggs Surname Study http://www.riggs.org.uk ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (©¿©) Searching for { ~ } the Missing Link! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ----- Original Message ----- From: "baumann" <baumann@netwitz.net> To: <RIGGS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 14, 2002 8:52 PM Subject: [RIGGS-L] Captain Riggs > List Members > > I have a book "The Making of Illinois" by Mather, published by Flanagan > Co. of Chicago in 1922.
