SAMUEL RIGGS & MARY RIGGS TO WILLIAM HENDERSON RIGGS Registered 11th March 1844 This indenture made this eighth day of March in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred & Forty Four between Samuel RIGGS & Mary RIGGS, his wife, both of the County of Hawkins & State of Tennessee of the one part & William Henderson RIGGS, grandson of the said Samuel RIGGSS of the County of Grainger & State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Samuel RIGGS & Mary RIGGS, his wife, for & in consideration of the sum of eleven hundred & ninety five dollars to them in hand paid by the said William Henderson RIGGS that is to say a portion of the above named sum is paid in consideration of the conveyance of the Real Estate of the said Samuel RIGGS & Mary RIGGS, his wife, to the said William Henderson RIGGS in an article bearing date this day and another portion of the above named sum in consideration of the personal Estate herein after mentioned for and in consideration of the above named payments & for the love & natural affection that we Samuel RIGGS & Mary, his wife bear to the said William Henderson grandson of the said Samuel RIGGS, do Sell & convey unto said William Henderson RIGGS the following described property, that is to say (the following appear to be slaves) Elias, Terry, Matthew, Willis, Reuben, Major, Clisbee, Tabitha, Celia, Jane, Frances and one boy child of Tabitha name believed to be George, Margarell, Susan, Mary, Preston, Tammy and her two children together with all the personal property of the said Samuel RIGGS & his wife Mary, of all and every description that has come by the said Samuel RIGGS, including bonds, notes & book accounts, stock of every description, household & kitchen furniture in any way belonging to the said Samuel RIGGS or in any way descend lawfully to the said Mary, his wife, from her intermarriage with the said Samuel RIGGS to the said William Henderson his heirs and assigns forever but subject never the less to the following Trusts & conditions, that is to say in trust that the said William Henderson RIGGS is to convey the whatever any part of the above named Personal Property according to the appointment of his father Jesse RIGGS is to have the disposing of said property in as fee simple a manner as he could have during the lifetime of the said William Henderson. In Testimony whereof we the said Samuel RIGGS & Mary RIGGS have hereunto set our hands and affixed our Seals the day & date above written, the word portion interlined before assigned.
