SAMUEL RIGGS to RUSSEL RIGGS Registered 11 March 1844- Know all men by these presents that I, Samuel RIGGS of the County of Hawkins and State of Tennessee in consideration of the natural love and affections which I bear towards by beloved Son Russel RIGGS of the County of Jefferson in said State of Tennessee have this day bargained Sold & delivered & do hereby bargain Sell & deliver to my Son Russel RIGGS Seven promissory notes amounting to One Thousand dollars it being their proportional part arising form the Real Estate of mine that was allotted by me for my Son Ellis M. RIGGS, Deceased, which I place to his two Sons in the manner & form hereafter mentioned that is to Say I am desirous to provide for my two grandsons Samuel RIGGS & Jackson RIGGS children of my son Ellis M. RIGGS now deceased. I have therefore Sold & delivered said promissory notes to my son Russel RIGGS to have & to hold them free from hire or charges until said Samuel RIGGS & Jackson RIGGS shall arrive to the age of Twenty One vesting him with full power as trustee for said Samuel & Jackson to dispose of the money for land at any time he may think proper or choose to do so at a fair & proper estimation also he the said Russel RIGGS is hereby authorized to hold said Money or land free from interest or charges for his trouble and expenses & to return unto the said Samuel & Jackson RIGGS all of the effects that he has in hand when they become of age. Moreover whereas I have understood that the said Russel RIGGS has given Amanda RIGGS, the wife of William E. RIGGS(?) (Ellis M. RIGGS) deceased a receipt touching said notes or money, therefore as the matter is under my instruction I instruct him to be governed by the above as my true & lawful agent in my room & stead.
