    2. The numerals 1817 on Rachel RIGGS Tombstone were for when the tombstone was set most likely.......All my research points to her name being Rachel EVANS. Please note that Jessee RIGGS brother Clisbe(y) married Jane EVANS. There were 8 children who inherited shares of the estate of Jesse RIGGS after he died in 1832. Their names are listed below. 1. Clisby RIGGS: 1795--? married Elizabeth 2. Jesse RIGGS: 1802--? married Rebecca PONDER between 1820 and 1830 3. Lavina RIGGS: 1804--? married Abner Bennett PONDER 05 May 1825 in Lawrence County, Alabama 4. Rhoda (Ronda) RIGGS: 1806--? married Joseph H. WALLACE 16 Dec 1826 in Lawrence County, Alabama. 5. Nancy RIGGS: born 1808--? married a CUNNINGHAM 6. Sarah RIGGS: born 1809--? married Arville NEWBERRY 24 Dec 1823 in Lawrence County, Alabama. 7. Phoebe RIGGS: born 1810--? married a POWELL 8. Polly RIGGS: born 1811--? married Squire S. HOGAN All the heirs to Jesse RIGGS either sold their land to Stephen CHITWOOD or he later bought the land from someone else; anyway Stephen CHITWOOD ended up with all of Jesse RIGGS property. I have never found the disposition of all of Jesse RIGGS slaves; number was over 18 in all. Jesse RIGGS served in the Revolutionary War in the same company with Reuben RIGGS, who I think was his brother. Jesse is rumored to be buried beside his wife in an unmarked grave. He is eligible for a Veterans Affairs Memorial Marker to commemorate his Rev War Service. His descendants should get a stone placed beside his wife to honor his service to our country. Hope this is of some help to you. Bobby G. Carwile

    3. Hi Bobby, I'm most interested in getting a marker for Jesse's grave, but I think we have to have proof positive that he is buried there. How strong are the rumors? Is this written in a book anywhere ? Was this a family plot or cemetery ? Any way to prove that he is buried there ? I'm in DAR and would love to see this happen--in fact I would be there with "bells on" ,if the good Lord is willing. I also, need to prove him as a patriot. I will try to get to work on that.
