    2. Perhaps going back to Jeremiah Sutton II in Butler County, PA and tracing descendants from his children. Branches of my MD and VA lines moved on to Kentucky, such as to Boonesville ( or burg) Kentucky. However, the main lines stayed in PA, VA, MD, and WV, or moved on to OHIO and beyond. You might fine those Kentucky VanMetre, Lucas, Swann, Hughes, Shepherd, and Jack families in the state still. Some of my father's family, Crago was spelling in the 18 century, are reported to have moved into Kentucky also, and on to Missouri. I would be glad to share what I come across. Genealogy research seems to be a real partnership. Steade

    1. Re: [RIGGS-L] Riggs
    2. Sure. Not sure that is was a migration as much as move. This region of the country connects corners of PA, MD, VA, and WV. Thomas Riggs, son of Rev. William Riggs, married Catherine Simms September 17, 1812 in Ohio County, WV; died 1871 at Moundsville, Marshall County, WV. (Of course, WV did not exist prior to the Civil War, but was part of VA.) Elizabeth Riggs, dau. of Rev. Riggs, married William Cochran June 30, 1812 in Ohio County, WV. James Riggs, another son, died 1871 at Moundsville, Marshall County, WV. Aberilla (or Alvilar), another daughter, (She married a Franklin and a Armstrong.) died October 9, 1849, buried at Fairfield Cemetery, Moundsville, WV. Steade

    2. I am not sure which Sutton line you are referring to in your message. However, Mary Ann Franklin, the daughter of Eleanor Riggs and William Franklin, married a Jermiah Sutton III, who was born C 1800 in Butler County, PA and died circa 1839 in Grant County, Indiana. Known children were Nancy Ann, Ellen, David Connor, William Franklin, Phebe, and Mary Elizabeth. Is there a possible connection to your "Riggs + Sutton" line? Steade Craigo

    2. Hello, I only have a Noah Riggs, born 1793 in Washington County, PA, the son of Rev. William Riggs and Mary Dodson. I do not have all of next two generations of the Riggs descendents. There were apparently several Riggs, descended from Rev. Riggs' children, which moved on to Ohio. Have you tried the following: www.datacruz.com/~bapeterson/dr1888.htm this is an old website; I am not sure that it is still active. Steade

    2. PPS: I just found a Frank FRANCIS Riggs, the son of Jeremiah Riggs and Rachel Keller, who had moved on to Meigs County, Ohio before 1829. They also had another son, Elias K. Riggs. Another son, Alvin Perry Riggs, had a daughter, Augusta J. Riggs, a twist on John August Riggs. Steade Craigo

    2. Actually this Riggs family did not all stay in PA. I am descended from Mahlon Riggs' sister, Eleanor Riggs. Several of their siblings moved on to Marshell County, WV. One brother, Jeremiah, moved westward to Ohio. Eleanor died and is buried in Indiana. Steade Craigo

    2. Checked the Wallace and Duggan books for the above born in 1834 Ohio. Sorry there was nothing on him. Did you look for guardian records, etc. for him in ref. to James & Philena's estate records. Also check the court records from time James died! Harriette H. Riggs

    3. I wish I knew Steade- I only have a handful of Suttons in my database. The one I mentioned and one later, when my Grandmother's sister Buela (Phillips) Leeman, of Bardstown KY married first, Robert M. Sutton around 1900. The other Sutton line is the one I sent in the last email. Elizabeth Sutton married to John Hunter (The Hunter Peake families have a very interesting history). I have a great deal of information on the Peake family, mother of Elizabeth Sutton, and the meandering connections are well defined, but yet not connected, to the Riggs. Just a few puzzle pieces missing I think, to break the brick wall of my Elizabeth Riggs, married to Carter Peake. I am hoping it will connect many other's loose ends for their Riggs connections also. Eventually, I think we will end up in VA...likely accomach I wish you the best in your research, and appreciate your interest and willingness to share. If you ever find a Peake, Phillips, connection in KY, I have a lot on them. 3. Thank you Frank for all the info; it looks like this family of Riggs pretty well stayed in PA There is some similarity of names that made me wonder if they might connect to the line of Riggs I am resaearching. The names Fleming (Flemmon) and Francis also occur in a Keen line I am researching that is connected to our Splawns and Riggs. Maybe certain names are just popular at certain times.
