    1. [RIGGS-L] (John) Augustus Riggs
    2. Marvalene
    3. I have had several enquiries as to the name John with Augustus Riggs. I have been looking through my information and I do not have but one document with the name John. One is an article submitted to Meigs Family History Book by Lucille Jacobs (granddaughter) who attaches John to the Augustus. I also have the word of my grandmother (who was daughter of John Robert Riggs) who told me that her brother, John Augustus Riggs was named after his grandfather. Marvalene

    3. Bridget and others who replied to my posting on John Augustus Riggs. I have the information on John Augustus Riggs. (birth date, marriage, death, etc.) What I don't have is proof of his parentage. Only the story that he is one of the children of James and Philena and Thomas Dye sent Downing to Iowa to bring back to Ohio after the death of James and Philena. To my knowledge, there has not been any proof of this story. But, if anyone can definitely prove this parentage, I would be so elated. He is my brick wall. 3. Stead, I agree with you one hundred percent! Too many Riggs! I think I know which line in Maryland you are talking about that uses the name Samuel repeatedly. I am still looking at it, in fact. But yes, too many Riggs and it does get confusing, Sue ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, May 11, 2002 3:54 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [RIGGS-L] Riggs Sue, Samuel was not a first name used in this family. 3. Stead, Thanks for the reply. I will try the addresses you have included and see if I can find more help there. Good luck in searching for your Riggs line..... Sue ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, May 11, 2002 6:10 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [RIGGS-L] Riggs Sue, My guess is that your Samuel Riggs is likely from the Maryland, possibly one of the two Riggs lines there. But there is a Riggs line in VA too. After Rev. William Riggs my lines becomes a little comfused.. I have a Samuel Riggs, born January 20, 1765 in Montgomery (Perhaps Montgomery County), MD, said to have moved to Kentucky. I also have a John Riggs, born 1740 in Frederick, MD, died 1827 in Aberdeen, OH. When mustered out at the end of Rev War he moved to Kentucky, later went to Ohio. I have received Riggs information from the following, perhaps they can be help. I know what it is like to hit stone wall during family research. [email protected] [email protected] Good luck. 3. This has nothing to do with genealogy, but has anyone else received e-mail direct to them in re: postings on Riggs mailing list? I got some e-mail from a Rick Kaiser and Lee Riggs that made it seem like I had a problem that I e-mailed them on and I simply did not do this. Just wondering.

    3. I believe that my John Augustus Riggs, Meigs Co., Oh. is a part of the Washington Co., Pa. Riggs, especially since Alvin Perry names a daughter Augusta. Sure wish I could prove this. 3. One Elizabeth Sutton is said to have wed Samuel Riggs, born 1796, son of Bethuel. They may be what brought in the Sutton element to the conversation.
