Hi Sandra, My Samuel Riggs was born in 1796 we think now either TN or SC. But I am not positive of that yet. His father may have been a William Riggs who died in 1828. None of his children bear the name of Rachel, though. That may or may not mean anything. As far as I know now, Samuel came from Bedford Co.,TN to MO around 1820. They moved around quite a bit working their way west, ending up in Ray, Daviess and Grudny Co., MO. I wish I could help you more, Sue ----- Original Message ----- From: Sandra Griffith Sent: Wednesday, June 26, 2002 7:52 AM To: [email protected] Subject: rachel 1795 was Re: [RIGGS-L] William Riggs born 1750 MD I am looking for the parents of Rachel Riggs born 1795 in MD, she married David Edwards and died in Ohio Sandy in Florida :-) REPLY TO [email protected] On Tue, 25 Jun 2002, Catherine S Hodnett wrote: > I am looking for more information on a William Riggs born 3 Dec 1750 > Cecil, MD, who married Mary Dodson, born 17 Dec 1755 MD. RIGGS, AZARIAH Sue Hodnett recently submitted RIGGS information, wherein Azariah Riggs was mentioned. This is not the same person as Sue discussed, but the fact that there were two fellows with the same unusual forename is interesting. He may have been a nephew, etc. 1850 Federal Census, Jefferson Co., TN, 13th Dist, 5 Nov. 1850: RIGGS, Azariah 46 Laborer TN. , Susan 43 TN. , Nigram 18 Laborer TN. , Betsy 16 TN. , Margaret 14 TN. , Perry 12 TN. , Ellis 10 TN. , Roina 8 TN. I do have a little more information on this family. Contact me privately if they are part of your lines. Marketta in Madera.
I have been looking everywhere for John William Riggs b. 1874 in Hardin County, TN. He was married to #1 Note Anderson, #2 Martha Azalee Crutchfield, #3 Beulah Berry. There was a 4th wife but no children born of that union. I am from John and Martha. John's parents have been noted as Alfred Riggs and Mary Anderson. I have found nothing at all on Alfred and Mary. If anyone has any information on this part of the ii family I would appreciate knowing. [email protected]
I am looking for more information on a William Riggs born 3 Dec 1750 Cecil, MD, who married Mary Dodson, born 17 Dec 1755 MD. I have two of their children listed as Jeremiah, born abt 1794 MD, and Mahlon, born 1792 Md. Does anyone know if there are more children: and is there a Samuel listed for this family born 1796? I have come across some indication that the father of my Samuel Riggs born in 1796, possibly Tn or SC, could be a William. Samuel witnessed a will written by William Riggs, and probated 3 Jan 1828 Ray Co., MO. This comes from a series of books called "Missouri Pioneers", vol. 8, p.49, if anyone has access to these books? Samuel seems to have been moving around with his inlaws, the Splawns. Two of the Splawn brothers appear to have moved into MO before it became a state in 1821, John and Mayberry. Samuel appears living close to them. They came out of SC, to Bedford and Jefferson Co., TN, moving on to MO. They appear in Chariton Co. Samuel is on an 1821 tax list there. He appears in Saline county, on an 1830 census. Later on he is in Ray, Daviess and possibly Grundy. His wife Sebrina lives in Grundy Co., MO for quite ahwile, outliving Samuel and marrying secondly Peter Goodwin, or Goodman. In 1880 she is living next to her brother Isaac, who appears to be raising some of his sister's children: a nephew, Monroe, and an Ezra, and a boy with the last name of White. It is quite possible that one of Samuel and Sebrina's girls married a White. There was a girl name Phariha born in 1832, and a Francis Mary, born in 1839, and there was a Nanroe, born either 1845 or 1855. In our list of children for Samuel and Sebrina, I did not have a Monroe or an Ezra. I am wondering if they came from the second marriage to Goodman? And I still wonder why her brother Isaac is raising them? In 1880, Sebrina is housing some of Charity Riggs Huttons children. Charity being an older daughter of Samuel and Sebrina's. When Charity died, her husband remarried, and the kids did not get along with the new stepmother, so went to grandmother Sebrina's to live. Also, interested in their oldest daughter Mary, who married William Hoover. Mary was born in 18245 andWilliam was born 1816 Ohio. Anybody have more on this couple? Also, son John, born in 1827, married Barriba Allen. I have some information coming concerining this couple. There is also a son William, of Samuel and Sebrina, which enforces the thought that maybe his father was the William I have mentioned above who left the will. I have just gotten hold of this new lead, so am just beginning to search it out. William was born in 1829, and I don't know who he may have married. Hey List, I am looking for a William Riggs born about 1760-1770 maybe Bedford or Jefferson Co., TN, or he could have been born in SC; I don't know who he married, but one of his sons may have been Samuel Riggs born in 1796. Samuel Riggs witnessed a will written by William Riggs, and it was probated 3 Jan/Jun 1828 Ray County, MO I believe. Has anyone access to the works "MIssouri PIoneers"? I believe this was found in Vol 8, p. 49; ( from Book A, p. 40.) There is evidence to support our Samuel Riggs moving around with his inlaws, the Splawns, as they moved from Tn to MO. Possibly Samuel's father, William, (or he may have been a brother, or an uncle) moved right along with them first into Chariton Co., MO, then on up the Missouri River to Ray County, which I understand was broken up to make Daviess and Caldwell Counties. He is found in Saline County, MO and Daviess, Ray and Caldwell Counties. Wife Sebrina is later found in Grundy County, MO. She is living next door to her brother, Isaac Splawn 1880 census. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Sue ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less!
