Thanks Bobby. Do you think the Riggs from CT were kin to the NJ Riggs, or perhaps the MD Riggs? Sue ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! There was an America RIGGS in the 1870 Census of Pope County, Arkansas, Dover Township, page 343. America was her given name, it appears that RIGGS was her married name and not her maiden name.
Not familiar with that America Riggs but I know I have seen one on the Arkansas Federal census post 1850. Not sure if its same one.
America RIGGS who married Levi Meisenhelter (born 17 Aug 1811 York Co, PA) on 09 Feb 1840 in Macon Co, IL was the daughter of John RIGGS born 1798 in Oxford, New Haven, Connecticut and wife Mary GILMAN (married 09 May 1816 in Adams Co, OH) born ca 1802 same place. John RIGGS born 1798 was son of John RIGGS born 01 April 1676 in Connecticut and wife Hannah JOHNSON. The info on John RIGGS and Mary GILMAN follows: John RIGGS: b abt 1798 in Oxford, New Haven, Connecticut. Married Mary GILMAN b ca 1802 in Adams Co, Ohio on 09 May 1816. Their Children were: 1. Henry RIGGS: b abt 1817 in KY 2. Samuel RIGGS: b abt 1820 in KY 3. America RIGGS: b abt 1822 in Quincy, Adams Co, Illinois. Married Levi MEISNEHELTER 09 Feb 1840 in Macon Co, OH 4. John Lile (Lyle) RIGGS: b 02 Nov 1824 in Putnam Co, Indiana 5. Amanda RIGGS: b abt 1826 in Quincy, Adams Co, Illinois 6. William Sears RIGGS: b 19 Mar 1830 in Putnam, Indiana 7. Joseph RIGGS: b abt 1840 or 1846 in Quincy, Adams Co, ILL This information is from Ancestry.com which had 34 entries on America RIGGS. Please note the confusion on the birth places which jumped around. IF America RIGGS was 28 in 1850 then the birth date of 1822 is correct. Bobby G. Carwile
Hello List, I am looking for information on America Riggs, born in KY, no year available, and who married Levi Misenhelter, born PA. In 1850 census of Macon Co., ILL he was 38 and he was 28. They apparently lived in Illinois. In their household, in 1850, were two Riggs children, Andrew, age 12, and Mary, age 14, both born Indiana. Does anyone recognize Amerca Riggs? And might these two young Riggs be her younger siblings, or perhaps belong to a brother of hers? Who is America Riggs? Sue

As far as I know I didn't have Riggs family in Alabama; but then I still have a lot to discover about my Riggs. Researching a Samuel Riggs born 1793/1796 maybe TN, and a William Riggs who died in 1828 Ray Co., MO, and left a will there. Still trying to find that will. Do you know where in Ohio she was born? Which county? There are many of us who have reserached the Riggs family from Meigs Co which is just across the river from Mason and Wood Co WVA. I have a Rachel but born much later, 1827. But maybe we can help if you know where she was in Ohio. Bridget Couch

My aunt Effie Mae told me that my great great grandfather was Kelvey Riggs who married Lazitta. My great grandfather was Jim Riggs but we don't know who he was married to. My aunt says he was married twice. My grandfather was James Raymond Riggs who married Luettita Nalley. My grandfather had three sisters. Ether, Regina, Praxie, and one brother Frank. I would love to get some information. My father's name was James Colbert Riggs and he died in 1971 at the age of 40. I was only three and half years old and I really would like to know some stories and information about my daddy's family. Thanks for all the help.

His name was Raymond Riggs but I am not sure when he was born. I do know he died in 1070. He married my grandmother whose name was Lula Nalley of Loretto. They had nine children. The children were Mildred, Murtle, Effie May, Barbara, Linda, Harlen, Charles, Colbert, and Genvea. This family has had a heredity disease called familial Polyposis which comes from the Nalley side of the family. Do you think the Raymond Riggs you have spoken of is my grandfather? Thanks
