I'm sure John Breese was married to a woman named Dorothy Riggs. My question is, has anyone done some primary or secondary research to identify Dorothy as the daughter of Edward and Aphia Riggs? It's her ancestors, not her name that I'm unsure about. My guess is that she is daughter to Edward and Aphia, since there are other clues in other sources that point in that direction. But there are a lot of genealogical mistakes based on guesses....

Surnames: RIGGS, BREESE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HSDBAIB/1307 Message Board Post: In the (U.S.A.) Breese family genealogies, Dorothy Riggs is listed as the wife of John Breese, both buried in Basking Ridge, NJ. Dorothy's parents are given as Edward Riggs and Aphia Stoughton, both of Newark/Basking Ridge, NJ. Edward is shown as the great grandson of the Edward Riggs who moved from England to Roxbury, MA in the 1600s. In the on-line Riggs Surname Study, which seems to be extremely well researched and documented, Edward and Aphia do not have a daughter named Dorothy. Their last child born in Basking Ridge is David, b. 1709. Can anyone help with the mysterious Dorothy? Is she an Edward of Roxbury descendant? Thank you very much.

    2. I know nothing about the Riggs Family! All I know is that Ruth Jane Riggs married Oliver Groom and they had two sons named William Price and James Riley (James was my grandfather) I recieved Ruth's death certificate and she died about 5 months after giving birth to James. James was raised by his father and step mother and William I am told was raised by his mothers family. And they all came from Lawson MO. Ray County. Ruth's death certificate says that her mother was Sarah Odell and her father I realy can't read the name but found some information for William Riley Riggs and and Sarah Odell. I will take any information and help I can.

    2. I was sent a report on the settlement of William Riggs estate, who died in Jan 1, 1828 Ray County, MO. I can't hardly read it, but the administrator of that will was a Reuben Riggs. I am almost positive that our Samuel Riggs, born 1793/1796, was related to this William somehow, and to Reuben Riggs also. And our Samuel Riggs had a father-in-law, John Splawn, who witnessed the will of this William Riggs along with Samuel. It appears I am not going to be able to find a copy of this will. Everyone I contact tells me that there are no records back as far as 1828 in MO that they can find. The estate settlement for William apparently had quite a few pages, but I am told that they are so fragile that the man who found them didn't want to risk copying them all. What I recieved was the final settlement of his estate. I can find no mention of names in it, with the exception of William, and his administrator, Reuben. It looks like the date of this final settlement was Sep. 11, 1848. Does anyone out there have a settement report signed by Reuben Riggs? But as I said, it is very hard to read. What I have been sent comes from the Ray County Historical Society and Roy Fehlman.
