    3. List Members I have a book "The Making of Illinois" by Mather, published by Flanagan Co. of Chicago in 1922. On Pgs 126-128 there is information about a Capt. Riggs, who rescued men at Prairie du Chien, The place where the attack occurred was called Campbell's Island in 1814. He was the commandor of the Illinois Rangers. My question is---what is his first name ? Is anyone out there familiar with this Indian attack ? My history is poor---need some help ! Thanks Annella --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Netwitz. 2. I just have a feeling your Sameul was the brother of my Phoebe Riggs Brindley. But about all I have that early is passed down stories, that she was born about 1769 in Tn, the Dau. of Dr, Asa Riggs. Phoebe and Frazier Brindley's first child was born in Jeff. Co Tn.in 1795. They moved to Franklin co GA ca 1800, then to Blount co Al in 1819. She had a bro. Clisby, but he does not seem to be the ones I find.Thier son was named Asa Riggs Brindley. I have records from Tn where Frazier and a SamuelRiggs were on land deeds. so they had to related. 3. LIst, It's me again, I'm back looking for more information on Samuel Riggs born abt 1796. For anyone researching the William Riggs born 3 Dec 1750, I see in the list of his 13 children a William born 29 Apr 1785. I am wondering if this list of children is complete, or if a Samuel could have been born in 1796 to this William of 1750. Reason: there is a William Riggs, who died in Jan of 1828 Ray County, MO, who left a will that was witnessed by Samuel Riggs born 1796, JOhn Splawn Sr, and John Splawn Jr, and a Reuben Clark. Some of his children are named in the will. He was married to an Eleanor...?....Riggs, who later remarried, I think to an Odell. What is the likelihood of the William born in 1785 migratiang to perhaps TN, and then on into MO? Our Samuel Riggs born in 1796 married Sebrina Splawn. I don't know where he was born, but I have good reason to believe he came from TN to MO around 1820, and may have been traveling with the Splawns, as they all did witness the will of the above mentioned William Riggs who died in 1828. This Samuel Riggs has to belong to someone. I thought he might belong to Bethuel Riggs, as Bethuel is the only Riggs man who has a son Samuel born in 1796, or at least that there is any record of. But that Samuel is said to have died in LA. in 1835. There is surely someone else out there who descended from Samule and Sebrina Splawm Riggs.

    3. List Putting all aside, does anyone have a Samuel Riggs who married a Sebrina or a Sebrina Splawn? Surely there is someone else who descended from this Samuel Riggs. I don't yet know for sure where he was born: TN, KY or maybe NC. But I am fairly certain he died in MO. Daviess or Jackson Co, or even Caldwell County. I haven't found a grave for him in the many cemeteries I have searched online. He died in 1842, according to our records. He and the Splawn family are pretty well connected to the Timothy Riggs family or families in Ray County area.

    2. Bobby, I am thinking I have found the will of William Riggs born about 1785 and who died in 1828 Ray County, MO. I think this William is the same William as the one who is said to have died in 1833 in his father's house. (?) Unless I am mistaken, and I will double check the names of the children of the two Williams, but I think a lot of them are the same names. Witnesses to this will: John Splawn, Jr, John Splawn, Sr, Samuel Riggs, and Reuben Clark. A Martha Barnes is connected to this William somehow, first wife maybe? His child by his first wife is Reuben Riggs, Sr. Then he has a wife listed as Eleanor Riggs, who inherited land for as long as she remained a widow. Names of minor children: Sally, Kisiah, Enoch and Uel. And a Patsey Barnes is listed as one of William's heirs. Other names connected to this family are Stollings, Fields, Drake, and Brown, and Odell. A Thomas Riggs was appointed guardian to Nancy Riggs, orphan of the above William, who tried to have her declared insane; but the court found her sane and appointe Benjamin Fields as her guardian. I wondered why it took nearly twenty years to settle the estate. But I suspect now that it was because of the minor children, who would inherit land when they matured.
