    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HSDBAIB/1356.1 Message Board Post: I don't have specific information, but it seems this line of Riggs was a prolific group, and a tight group. Most of them had many, many children, and the brothers, in particular seem to have liked each other very much because they all named their children after each other. So if you have 8 sons, and they all grow up to have 8 sons, and they all recycle the same names, you will have cousins in the same generation with the same names, but with different parents. This seems to be an oddity of this branch of the Riggs. You will find one glaring exception, and that would be in the group that branched off and moved to Texas. They all have different, and very unusual names.

    1. [RIGGS-L] Zadoc/Zadok Riggs knots... untying....
    2. K. B. Cook
    3. Hello, I'm new to this list but have been working on untying Zadok Riggs' knots for some time, now. There seems to be mixed information relating to what appears to me as (at least) 2 Zadok Riggs fellows that have my research in knots. I'm looking at the family of Zadok Riggs (b. 1/4/1754 in Morris Co., NJ, d. 11/23/1846 in Boone Co., MO, s/o Samuel Riggs & Elizabeth Tompkins/Thompkins) who married Sarah Elizabeth Scott (b. 8/24/1755 in VA, d. 8/25/1846 in Boone Co., MO, m. ?? Surry Co., NC; d/o James Scott & Keziah Terry) who had the following known children: Hanna(h); Scott Adams; Mary/Polly; Samuel; Zadok; James; Silas; and an unnamed dau. My line of research connects in with 2nd son, Samuel's family. What seems to be confusing is that many show another Zadok as a s/o David Riggs & Miriam Wright who married Nancy Fleming (her ancestry is unknown to me at this time) and had the following known children: Daniel, Joel, Elizabeth, Martha. This family seemed to be located in Stokes Co., NC, then Williamson Co., TN and other TN counties, w/descendants ending up in AL, TX, and other southern locations. The following website seems to substantiate this last paragraph: http://cssvirginia.org/tyson/mabry/wsmjrnl.txt Since these are obviously different men with different parents/wives/children/homesteads, then why are so many showing Zadok, s/o Samuel & Sarah, married to both Sarah Scott AND Nancy Fleming? Can anyone on this list help me find the sources/documentation elements for my theory? I would like to untangle my GEDCOM data as soon as possible. Thanks in advance. Be well & God bless, Kate Beaugrand Cook Minnesota kbcook@cfaith.com or kbcook@mn.rr.com ><>God Bless America & Israel<><

    3. This may not be the same Nancy Riggs, but the dates and locations are remarkable. One of my ancestor relatives is Nancy Riggs, born after 1800, married William Steele in 1829 in Monongalia County, Ohio. Nancy Riggs Steel, left with a large family, came to Ohio in a covered wagon from Virginia. The U.S. had given her mother forty acres in Iowa, which by common consent, was given to Nancy. They went to Carson City, Nevada during the gold and silver boom. They organized in Omaha, Nebraska, for the trip to California, making seven caravans that were going. They secured larger covered wagons and guide book. They traded with the Indians on friendly terms. They made the trip in four months in 1860. The info is sketchy and the copies are very hard to read. I was wondering if this would be a wagon train move to Oregon back then? Would anyone have any other info on this man for I do find it very interesting in who was traveling with whom back then. I came across Capt. Biggs when I was reading about a Jonathan Keeney who went to court in Oregon back in 1853 over some cattle that Capt. Biggs was in charge of and later sold in a public auction. The Court Case was the first recorded case in Lane Co. Eugene City, Oregon in Sept to October of 1853. Case title is "Action of Trover" Jonathan Keeney was the plaintiff and William Masterson & 22 others were the defendants. In the papers, it claimed by October of 1853 this Biggs man was deceased. Any input would surely be appreciated, maybe find some leads?
