Anne: In the book "Kissin Cousins" by Lois M. Jones and Annette H. Jones, Published in 1981, they mention at least three seperate Riggs lines, One from what is now Surray Co. others from Albermarle and the third in Virginia since 1600. That date leaves out the migration of the Riggs line from N.J. In the book I have seen evidence of close intermarriage between two of the lines. I have tried to put these in a timeline format and found it next to impossible. I guess what I am trying to say is you need to put more information than just names in your query. I did not find any Mahala Riggs in this book. Altho I have seen it mention, but cannot remember where. That is the one name that isn't in my line. The Riggs from N.J. to Surray County, N.C. have a habit of naming there children the same names. I have seen a Jesse and a Samuel, b. 4-4-1760 and another Samuel b. 4-11-1760. The last one is my ggggrandfather, lived in what is now Hamblen Co. TN. At the time it was Hawkins C! o. He also lived in Jefferson Co. TN. where his father Edward lived until he died in 1820. These last statements are all proven by deeds and signitures on Revolutionary War pay vouchers, Samuel was too young to be paid directly, and Guardianship papers. I probably connect to your tree, but I'm too busy to dig out all my records at the immediate moment. I will save this email and try to look later. If he ended up in Utah, then he may be listed in a book called "The History of Wellsville" or something like that. My mother has it. I'll find out the exact name and publisher. It has been told to me that through oral history, that my Riggs go back to Massassoit, through one of the John Riggs who is said to have married Massassoit's great/great granddaughter. It is a connection that I have not been able to verify, except by my mother's cousin, Seth Riggs, who heard the story from his grandfather. Anyway, I'll try to see what I have in the next day or so.
